How To Get Larvitar In Pokemon Scarlet (The Easy Way)

  • November 26, 2022
  • Emma Flint

As cute as a lot of the new Generation Nine Pokemon are, you can’t deny the charm of “old school” Pokemon. One such classic Pokemon we can’t get enough of is Larvitar.

This rugged character is a Ground/Rock type that eventually evolves into the ferocious looking Tyranitar, a dinosaurian Pokemon that’s as formidable as it is large. Trainers love it so much that it’s listed as one of the best Rock type Pokemon to catch.

Here’s the thing, though: you can only get Larvitar in Pokemon Scarlet. Meaning all Violet trainers need to be using Brandon’s how to get Bagon guide instead (as that’s an exclusive).

And secondly, Larvitar is quite difficult to find. Despite being located in several different areas of the Paldea map, it’s rarely seen. But we have a few tips and tricks up our sleeves to help with that…

Where To Catch Larvitar In Pokemon Scarlet

Larvitar can be found at a handful of sites across Paldea, but the easiest location to find it early on in the game is in South Province (Area Five).

If you fly to the Poco Path lighthouse and look on your map you’ll see a spiral shaped mountain in the distance – travel there to get Larvitar.

Be warned, a lot of Axew populate that area as well, and with the two Pokemon sharing similar colours it’s easy to confuse one for the other if you’re rushing around.

Though considering Axew is a Dragon type Pokemon you might want to catch it; it’s not one of the best Dragon type Pokemon, but it’s still a powerful ally.

If you’re not near South Province you can search the following areas instead:

  • East Province (Area Three)
  • West Province (Area One)
  • Asado Desert
  • Alfornada Cavern
  • Dalizapa Passage

To increase your chances, set up a Picnic in one of the above locations and prepare a Jambon-Beurre sandwich. Part of its effect is that it increases encounters with Ground type Pokemon, making it ideal for Larvitar.

How To Evolve Larvitar In Pokemon Scarlet

Evolve Larvitar into Pupitar at Level 30, then wait until Level 55 for it to evolve into Tyranitar.

There you have it, now you can get Larvitar with (relative) ease! If you’re looking for more helpful items and tips be sure to check out the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet mystery gift codes.
