The ModRetro M64 is now available to purchase, with no wait times or pre-orders. They've come out of the game swinging, with shipping beginning today, too. The device starts at $229, and the controller costs $89.99. So, like any journalist, I've been scouring their website at a deep level, sourcing information, finding out their M64 AV Adapter is actually available to pre-order and now, from what I can tell after seeing a random image on their website, a new Chromatic is coming...
My eagle eyes spotted it from a mile away, and it's slap bang in the middle of their homepage, so it's likely this was done on purpose, in hopes that fools like me would write about it to mix up some extra exposure! Or, this image was indeed accidentally replaced without realising that it showcases a not-yet-announced version of the popular Chromatic handheld.

This has surprised me, because as we know, the Chromatic is made with a magnesium alloy, which is one of the main features of the device. It's high quality, incredibly durable and even survives a car running over it (yes, we tested it in our review), so why now would they begin making a plastic version? Perhaps this version will be cheaper to buy, and likely cheaper to produce?
Or is it the start of a new plastic portfolio of Chromatics coming from ModRetro over the next few months and years? Who knows, but what I do know is that it looks great, and it's likely following on from the M64 trend of allowing the gamer to take a peek at the motherboard and electronics of the device. We have asked ModRetro to confirm it's existence and we'll update this article if they respond.
