We've always been a big fan of RetroAchievements here at Retro Dodo. Sure, you get cool trophies when playing new games on the PS5 and Xbox, but what about when you want to play your favourite GameCube and PS2 games? Everyone should be rewarded for doing well in Banjo-Kazooie and Abe's Oddysee just like they are in Hogwarts Legacy, in our book.
While these RetroAchievements have been available through emulators, there hasn't been an official way to get them when playing on platforms like Nintendo Switch Online. Well, a dataminer by the name of Luigiblood has discovered that Nintendo are coming up with a new way for us to enjoy some of the classic titles on the NES, SNES, and Game Boy apps on Switch Online in the form of Challenge Cards that can be collected
Just to be clear about certain things: - There's no new games added. - The challenges are only for specific games. - The instructions clearly mention to use the NSO Home Menu app to access them, there is no in-app menu to access them. - I have no idea what rewards they would bring.

Just like when you get trophies in Call of Duty for sniping your enemies, it looks like certain games are going to have challenges for you to complete to add a bit more jeopardy to the gameplay. If you succeed, you'll get a little virtual card to show off how brilliant you are.

These are some of the Donkey Kong-related cards as shown by Nintendo indie Journalist & Editor-in-Chief of UnivNintendo @necrolipe. I already knew that one of them is going to be mine cart-related before I zoomed in! They seem to show certain tasks like 'dodging fireballs' and 'catch the key' that must be completed in a certain way or time to unlock these little collectibles. They will certainly make me come off autopilot when playing games that I know like the back of my hand and add in an extra level of difficulty, that's for sure!
At this moment in time, I don't know when this feature will be ready or if it's going to be announced today. But as the Nintendo Direct is just around the corner, there's a high probability that we might get some more news in a couple of hours and also see some more cards for different games too!
