It seems like the class of Gen 6 is really making a comeback in 2026. The Dreamcast is the console of the moment, getting the respect it should have had back in the day, but the GameCube is also getting a bit of a resurgence thanks to the arrival of GCN games on Nintendo Switch Online too. And thanks to Halo: Campaign Evolved, more and more people are looking back to the Xbox to see how far they can push Microsoft's first console.
After seeing Runescape working on a Dreamcast, I thought it might only be a matter of time before people took up the challenge of bringing it to other Gen 6 consoles. And sure enough, Milenko has taken to X to show RCSx, the modified version of Runescape Classic +, working on the Xbox in a video.
Hey @falco_girgis no networking yet, but... https://t.co/uTe4KSVEyn pic.twitter.com/W3ijrfNhH1

Admittedly, it's less taxing to get something like Runescape running on a console with 64mb of RAM as opposed to a console with 16mb of main RAM and 8mb of VRAM. The CPU and GPU in the Xbox are all far superior too. Falco Girgis says as much in his comments, but I love the support that members of different modding communities show each other on social media. All we need now is someone from the GameCube and PS2 modding scenes to pop into the chat, and we'll complete the whole generation!
Milenko is now looking at how to get networking sorted for online play on private servers. Make sure to follow them on X so you can keep up to date with their progress!
