Recent rumors reignite a fire in our retro hearts for the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda ‘Oracle of Seasons’ & ‘Oracle of Ages‘ remakes.
These incredibly unique entries in the Legend of Zelda series are some of the most beloved to retro enthusiasts, the Retro Dodo team included.
In fact, we gave the series the number one spot on our list of the best Gameboy Color games, they are that good!
Both titles are jam-packed with character & charm, unique action & puzzles, and some of the best pixel art for the Game Boy Color.
They also happen to have one of the most unique stories in the Zelda franchise, much like their predecessor: Link’s Awakening.
Nintendo recently dropped Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons on their Switch Online service, which could have been their quiet way of preparing the market for the exciting announcement of a remake, especially as it’s been 23 years since the original games were released!
Rumors of remakes for this iconic pair are nothing new and should always taken with a pinch of salt, but recent discussions seem to suggest that these rumors have some solid legs. And it certainly feels like the perfect time for it to happen.
So let’s take a look at what is expected in the future for The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages.

A Familiar Team Taking The Lead
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remakes are rumored to be in development at Grezzo; who you are likely quite familiar with, but may not know it.
Grezzo is a game studio led by Koichi Ishii, formerly of Square Enix and the creator of the Mana series. They have a longstanding relationship with Nintendo and have worked on several of their most important intellectual properties.
They also happened to develop a very important game in today’s discussion and what I would describe as one of the best remakes in video game history – 2019’s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
So they would obviously be the perfect team to apply the exact same treatment to a Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remake.
Grezzo has not had a major game release since 2021’s Miitopia, which suggests that a majority of their team have been busy working on… something.
The Oracle series remake would certainly be a fitting project for the team, and 2024 feels like an appropriate window for it’s announcement and possibly even the release.
Following In The Footsteps Of Link’s Awakening?
Grezzo created the unique visual identity of the Link’s Awakening remake, which also happened to be the general style of many of their previous titles.
When considering the Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remake, our mind immediately goes to that same treatment.
What was particularly pertinent about the Link’s Awakening approach was how it allows the maps to be almost identical in their original layout and spacing, and it keeps the familiar top-down view intact.
We really could not imagine these Game Boy Color classics being ported into the Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom engine in a full 3D environment.
All of the iconic sequences and puzzles would entirely lose their essence if removed from the top-down viewpoint.
So we are confident an Oracle series remake would absolutely have to be done in a similar style as the Link’s Awakening remake.
I would also love to see Grezzo present a progression in the treatment they created for Link’s Awakening and surprise fans with something that feels like a true evolution.
To see the final aesthetic treatment will surely be one of the most exciting aspects for an official announcement for the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remakes.
Will They Be Switch 2 Launch Titles?
We also do not know what console the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remakes would actually be created for.
Knowing that we are in the twilight of the Nintendo Switch era and the Switch 2 is certainly imminent, most major games in development are surely intended for the Switch 2.
Obviously, Nintendo would need to announce the Switch 2 before they announce any games for it, so we are in a tricky position at the moment with future Nintendo announcements.
But, if rumors about the Switch 2 getting a 2024 announcement and possible Q4 holiday release do come to fruition, we could also be looking at the Oracle remakes being launch titles for the highly anticipated Switch successor.
Or, we could be lucky and get the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remakes on the current generation Switch AND for the Switch 2, much like how Breath of the Wild originally released on the Nintendo Wii U and subsequently as a Switch title.
So these highly anticipated remakes could be coming sooner rather than later.
Expectations and Cautions
It should go without saying that rumors are exactly that until officially confirmed by the relevant parties (i.e., Nintendo and Grezzo).
So we cannot take the word of leakers on Reddit, Twitter, Discord or 4chan for gospel, even if they have gotten some of their declarations correct in the past.
Thus far, the discussion about these remakes come entirely from anonymous leaks and rumors from those with no affiliation with Nintendo.
But it is obviously quite exciting to consider the possibilities, and the pieces of the puzzle certainly seem to be falling into place for the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages remakes.
An Oracle series remake by Grezzo just makes sense, and we absolutely cannot wait to find out what comes next for both The Legend of Zelda and the Nintendo Switch!
