We're lucky enough to have spoken with the Founder of Console Heroes a while back, and we knew that SEGA Game Gear diorama toys were coming for some time, but it's good to see that they've finally made it to stores and retailers in the US and will soon be landing throughout Europe, I can imagine.
Console Heroes are known famously for creating an array of SEGA Mega Drive and SEGA Genesis dioramas last year. They're collectable 2" figures inside of cartridges that allow you to partially build the infamous levels inside of many classic SEGA games; it went down incredibly well, so much so they made some highly limited PlayStation 1 dioramas too that, unfortunately, not many people can get their hands on, and I have yet to see them land in Europe.
Before stocking up on more PlayStation 1 products, they've now started releasing their new SEGA Game Gear products in stores such as Walmart and Target in the USA. These are slightly different in the sense that they are blind boxes and feature 2" statues that can be displayed inside a Game Gear cartridge, again featuring an array of iconic SEGA characters and video games.
The blind boxes come with a character, a mini Game Gear cartridge, and a transparent stand that lets you display both the cartridge and the character. The cartridge opens up to reveal artwork of certain levels and a pin that allows you to stand the character should you not want to use the display stand. There are 6 characters to collect, and as of now, no "console display," which they have done with the SEGA Genesis and PlayStation 1; they typically launch a larger set that houses all of your characters in the console, but I don't see any news or information, or leaks on that, yet.
Some users on X have spotted this in Walmart, retailing for around $4-$5 per blind box with limited quantities available and no online listings, so perhaps they've stocked these a little earlier than anticipated, which was similar to what happened with their PlayStation 1 products too, so check out your local stores when you can. The characters to collect are:
- Sonic From Sonic The Hedgehog
- Axel Stone From Streets of Rage 2
- Blue Devil - Sonic Drift 2
- Ax Battler - Golden Axe
- Fang The Sniper - Sonic Triple Trouble
- Joe Musashi - Shinobi
