I know that some of you might be thinking ‘Assassin’s Creed isn’t that old’, but the first game actually came out in 2007 which is 17 years ago. I know, I’ll let that sink in a little for you. I remember when the first game came out, booting up The Animus and heading back in time to work through the memories of your ancestor and kill as many people as possible along the way.
Remakes are all the rage at the minute, what with Beyond Good & Evil finally getting its 20th Anniversary Edition, Donkey Kong getting the HD treatment, and Gex returning back to consoles. It makes sense; Retro Gaming is bigger than ever right now, and in a world where we’re all worrying about money and what it means to be an adult, escaping back to our pasts gives us the escape that we need (and it’s much cheaper than a therapist).
Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot has already hinted that we can expect a remake of Black Flag from 2013, and has spoken on Ubisoft’s website about future remakes from the series. “Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them. There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”
What Assassin’s Creed Remakes Would We Like To See?
Obviously Black Flag is a game we all want to play again; swashbuckling your way through an Assassin’s Creed game is undoubtedly one of the best in the series. It dropped onto the Xbox 360 back in 2013 and instantly shot to the top of fan’s wishlists. If we’re going to condone any kind of piracy, it has to be one where you’re on a desert island with crystal clear waters and a pirate ship nearby.
The Retro Dodo team would love to see a complete remake of Assassin’s Creed II as well. I know that we had a remaster in the Ezio Collection, but a complete remake for the PS5 would be incredible. With 9 million sales under its belt, it’s one of Ubisoft’s most successful titles and certainly has the backing of fans behind it.
Time will tell which remakes we’re getting from Ubisoft, and as always, we’ll let you know more news as and when it drops (or leaks) from Ubisoft HQ.
