I know Pokémon and potassium sound similar, but I would never have thought in a thousand years that I would see a ROM hack where Pika and all of his pals would be turning into bananas! This is, and I'm sorry to use the pun, one of the most bananas ideas I've ever come across. But I'll say one thing for it - it's 100% original!
A world where all Pokémon suddenly turned into bananas and no one knows why is the kind of premise that you might find in a Terry Pratchett book. It's completely wild, and the Kanto region is now overrun with yellow fruit causing havoc.
And when I say every Pokémon, I mean every Pokémon. Every critter in this Pokémon FireRed ROM hack by Jace.of.Hearts is now a banana, and every mention of the word Pokémon has been replaced with the word Banana. You'll heal your bananas at the Nana Center and shop at the Nana Mart, capturing bananas with Nana Balls.
And you know what - I love it. It's just the kind of insane idea that pulls me in and makes me excited. There's even a legendary banana called Hakuba to find too, as well as a chance of catching shiny bananas. Fight with Psychic Bananas, Flying Bananas, Fire Bananas... am I having a fever dream here?
Look, it's not going to be as complicated as Pokémon Unbound or have the ground-breaking fusion ability of Pokémon Infinite Fusion. But it's got one thing that both of those hacks don't have, and that's bananas. It's fun, it's silly, and it's a new way of playing a classic game that we all know back to front by now. Catching a Level 5 Wild Banana and going up against another Wild Banana never felt cooler.
