Despite all the hype around the PlayStation 5 Pro and Sony's plans for the PlayStation 6, its an old Sony legend that's that has taken the spotlight this week after receiving an update from Sony HQ. And yes, that does mean that amongst a tonne of other things, we received an update for a system that was discontinued in 2017 before we got GTA 6.
Just let that sink in a little...
According to Ask Playstation on X, Update 4.92 is available for the PS3 now, prompting people to run their eyes, run upstairs to get their PS3 out of the loft, rub their eyes again, and then download the update just for the sheer novelty of it. It's the comments of people just incredibly confused as to why Sony would bother with this update that have had me chuckling away to myself while writing this article - someone told Sony that we could do with an update for the PS1 while they're at it, but that might be stretching it a little.

The update is essentially just to update the Blu-ray encryption key; it's not life changing, but it's still novel to think that Sony are thinking about the PS3 in 2025. To download the update, you'll need 200MB of space on your PS3 or a removable hard drive, and you can find out more about how to update your PS3 by visiting the PlayStation website.
