A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…. we decided to bring you everything we knew about Star Wars Battlefront 3.
To be clear from the off, we’re talking about the rebooted Star Wars Battlefront series. While we have fond memories of college lunchtimes spent fighting over planets in Galactic Conquest mode back on the PS2, the original Star Wars Battlefront series is no more.
It’s now been five years since the release of the last Star Wars Battlefront game and while it’s still a great looking game with a strong player base and excellent combat, it is a shame that we haven’t seen a new entry in the series yet.
We’ve scoured the galaxy, we’ve asked the regulars of the Mos Eisley Cantina and we’ve communed with the force ghosts of Obi-Wan, Yoda and, for some reason Hayden Christensen to uncover the latest Star Wars Battlefront 3 information.
So please join this scruffy looking Nerf Herder as I take you through everything we know about Star Wars Battlefront 3.

Everything We Know About Star Wars Battlefront 3

Star Wars as a franchise is continually growing under the stewardship of Disney.
EA were working on a spin off for the Star Wars Battlefront series entitled Star Wars: Vikings. Vikings was set to expand on the Star Wars Battlefront formula by introducing open-world gameplay segments giving players an opportunity to explore planets in a non-linear fashion.
The one thing we think we know for certain is that Star Wars Battlefront 3 will run on the Frostbite Engine. EA’s flagship game engine tech produces stunning visual effects and ultra-realistic animations and is no stranger to the Star Wars franchise as it was used to develop Star Wars Battlefront 2.
What Can We Expect From Star Wars Battlefront 3

EA no-longer hold all the keys to the Star Wars game library with games like Ubisoft’s Star Wars: Outlaws due to release in 2024.
With Outlaws offering an open-world (or should that be open-galaxy) to explore, and with the previously cancelled Star Wars: Vikings also aiming to embrace open-world design, it’s to be expected that Star Wars Battlefront 3 will do the same.
We’d also expect elements from the recent Star Wars TV series to make their way into Star Wars Battlefront 3. Locations from shows such as Andor, The Mandalorian and Ahsoka will bring fresh landscapes to Star Wars Battlefront 3.
And it’s not just new locales that could make their debut in Star Wars Battlefront 3. New heroes and villains from the TV shows should be a given with players able to jump into the boots of Din Djarin, Bo Katan and Baylan Skoll all playable. I’m sure we’d also love to adorably waddle into battle as a force-wielding Grogu!
The Main Rumours About Star Wars Battlefront 3

The main rumour surrounding Star Wars Battlefront 3 is that it will link directly into the expanded universe of the recent TV shows. Characters from Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and even the luke-warm Book of Boba Fett are rumoured to make an appearance in Star Wars Battlefront 3.
Dave Filoni’s characters and storylines certainly have been ramping up for a while now and the decades long connective tissue from the mind of George Lucas’ Padawan have kept TV audiences enthralled for years.
Following the ending of the Ahsoka TV series, Filoni’s creative endeavors appear set to culminate with an imminent cross-over event that will require the likes of Bo Katan, Ahsoka, Din Djarin, Grogu and others to band together to stop a greater threat to the galaxy.
There could be some weight to this rumour as the previous two Star Wars Battlefront games have already replicated all of the major battles from the cinematic universe.
Star Wars Battlefront 3 then could explore parts of the greater Star Wars timeline without the weight of the Skywalker Saga to tie it down.
What Platforms Will Star Wars Battlefront 3 Be Available On?

With Star Wars Battlefront 3’s release date far, far away, it’s safe to assume that the next entry in the series will be arriving on PC and current gen hardware only. That means that we should expect to see Star Wars Battlefront 3 launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
One of the biggest selling points for the Star Wars Battlefront series has always been the highly detailed environments and visuals that accurately capture the aesthetics of the Star Wars movies and TV shows.
To achieve this level of visual continuity, the Star Wars Battlefront games have always released on the latest consoles from Microsoft and Sony as well as PC.
2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched on PC, PS4 and Xbox One and didn’t make it to Nintendo’s console, presumably due to the hardware limitations of the Switch.
There is a chance that Nintendo’s Switch successor could provide a home for Star Wars Battlefront 3 however we won’t know for certain until the hardware specifications are revealed in 2024.

When Will Star Wars Battlefront 3 Be Released?

A release date for Star Wars Battlefront 3 has yet to be confirmed, but we expect the new game to release sometime in Winter 2025.
The last game in the Star Wars Battlefront franchise was 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2. It’s predecessor, which saw EA reboot the franchise for a new generation, released in 2015.
While the series has seemingly remained dormant for several years now, developer DICE continued to support Star Wars Battlefront 2 with post-launch content until the start of 2020 and provided multiple tweaks and improvements to the game along with several large chunks of DLC.
In addition to the post-launch support for Star Wars Battlefront 2, DICE and EA released an updated Celebration Edition of the game back in 2019 that collected all the previously released content into one new package.

After wrapping up development on Star Wars Battlefront 2, DICE pivoted back to its other tentpole series, Battlefield, and released Battlefield 2042 in 2021. Battlefield 2042 has since received six seasons of additional content post-launch and seemingly remains the focus for the Swedish developer according to their website.
Fans anticipating Star Wars Battlefront 3 shouldn’t lose all hope however. With The main development on Battlefield 2042 complete it is likely that the majority of DICE’s workforce will have returned to work on Star Wars.
Fellow EA support studios Criterion and Motive will both also be available to work on the franchise following the releases of NFS Heat and the Dead Space Remake respectively.
For now, we predict that Star Wars Battlefront 3 will be announced at Star Wars Celebration in Japan in April 2025, and release in November 2025. This will echo how Star Wars Battlefront 2 was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2017, before being released the following November.
