Fortnite is the game that keeps on giving, and although I am a huge retro gamer at heart, I'd be lying if I said I never played Fortnite. In fact, back when it first launched, I played it a lot, as I was still working at GamesRadar, creating videos and guides for the game full-time.
So, it's crazy to see how far it's come, and even crazier to now see retro gaming IP make its way into the Fortnite-osphere, with characters that many of us still love to this day, some that haven't got much of the spotlight recently, I'll admit!
Fortnite launched the new trailer for Chapter 7 Season 4, naming it Override, and the trailer features an array of characters, levels, items and moves from many of the best retro games ever made. It's good for the entire retro gaming industry to introduce the younger generation to these retro games and characters, especially after Sony's promise to stop physical media, so hopefully the youngsters will start exploring older games that they can actually own, trade and sell.
Some of the characters I spotted in this short trailer from retro games are:
- Spyro The Dragon
- Crash Bandicoot
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Mega Man
- Dr. Eggman (Sonic)
- Master Chief (Halo)
- Ryu (Street Fighter)
- Chun Li (Street Fighter)
- Shadow (Sonic)
- Pac-Man's Ghosts
- Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
- Raiden (Mortal Kombat)

It's an onslaught of cameos, one of Fortnite's largest in fact, featuring many well-known names in one season. There are even areas of the map that feature levels from certain games, such as an area to play Tetris, the literal Green Hill Zone from Sonic and many more to discover on the 20th August when this new chapter finally releases.

It seems like these crossovers are doing well for Fortnite, especially after the huge numbers that downloaded the previous season around The Simpsons. I, for one, downloaded it and will be re-downloading it for this one to see how deep these crossovers go, more specifically the Spyro character, as that's one IP that isn't getting enough attention recently.
