I'll be completely honest, this one went under my radar, and that's coming from someone who entered a Beyblade competition at my local toy store when I was 9 years old. I lost in the first round, I'll admit, but that's because Toby had a launcher grip the size of a sword and I had the cheap, third-party grip that could only be held with two fingers.
I'm not mad about it... absolutely. Pffft. Nope. Toby did well, or rather his grip did... I mean, he deserved it.
Tears aside, Slaybade is an upcoming video game for Steam that takes inspiration from Nintendo DS graphics. It's a battle-top action roguelite game developed by Henry's House and Oscar Brittain. Players will collect parts, merge abilities, and take on opponents in battle-top engagements to acquire upgrades. You need to make cold, hard cash and win the city in Slayblade, all by using your mouse in a swipe and slash movement to increase your chances of bigger and more powerful hits.
There are a heck of a lot of customisations you can do to your Beyblade, and as you go through the game, you'll get opportunities and challenges to gain more money to buy add-ons from shops and other players you meet in the game.
In a match, you control your RPM tactically, playing defensively or offensively to beat the other player. Satadiums can change to, becoming smaller or bigger with each level, and there are even some surprises too, to test your skill. It's an indie game, developed by two talented individuals, and a demo is available to explore on Steam today, with no official release date as of yet. But it seems to be almost there!
