We really enjoyed playing through Pokémon Dark Rising over the years, so much so that we compiled a list of cheats to help you through the game. It's mad to think that it's been out for 14 years at the time of writing, which is why Lord Lucario has taken it upon themselves to update DarkRisingGirl's original creation in 2026, keeping the Pokémon ROM Hack community going from strength to strength.

The Dark Rising remake takes you on an adventure through the Core region, just like the original. It's a hack of FireRed with a story that sees the player waking up from a dream where a Pokémon has chosen you to save both it and the world. The starters are all Dragon-types too, which is super cool. Oh, and you have to save your father, so there's a heck of a lot going on in this game right from the word go.

The remake reimagines the Core Region with new maps and brings multiple character outfits to the game. There are over 650 Pokémon to catch, this time with powerful Mega Evolutions to unlock, as well as the ability to create Mega Stones. It's given a classic a new lease of life, and you can get the full feel of the remake from the video above.
