I did say when Retroid teased this Duo Pocket that extra news would come thick and fast, and that it has, with two small announcements coming every day. It looks like Retroid are launching two versions of this device: the normal Duo, packed with some respectable specifications and a Duo Lite version that's a little less powerful and comes with slightly smaller displays and shoulder buttons for those who are on a budget.
And as you may know, Retroid's parent company also own AYN Thor, so with these two releases it seems like they're really trying to corner the mid to premium range of dual-screen devices, while ANBERNIC has just announced the RG DS Plus, which is rumoured to be less than $100. So, it's a good time to be a dual-screen fan.
The Retroid Pocket Duo Lite will retail at $149 for the 4GB + 64GB version, with early birds getting $14 off. The same for the 6GB - 128GB version, retailing for $169 and a reduced early bird price of $155, which is very reasonable if you're willing to sacrifice the shoulder buttons and slightly smaller bottom screen.
The Retroid Pocket Duo will retail for $269 for the 8GB + 128GB, with an early bird price of $249. This is the only version, 8GB, and as of now, transparent versions are available for both the Duo and Duo Lite, though they may charge $5 more, as they did with the Pocket Nova. But I did call them out on this and say it was a little cheeky; perhaps they listened.
Overall, I think these prices are respectable, though only time will tell regarding what the emulation performance is. They're really owning the dual-screen market at the moment, unless the Yoniq Duo can pull something exciting out of the bag.
