I'm all for LEGO sets aimed toward adults, don't get me wrong. Having nostalgic sets that are built for older gamers is awesome, and I'm all for it. But this advert for the new Donkey Kong LEGO Set feels like it should be for a Silent Hill game rather than an old arcade title.

Legendary Donkey Kong player Steve Wiebe is walking around his house being tormented by the thought of playing Donkey Kong, seeing DK in shadows, looking at a locked door, all accompanied by whistling kettles and strange sound effects that make me feel a little unnerved while watching.

In the end, Steve sits down to play Donkey Kong in LEGO form, showcasing the new arcade set in all its glory. The reprieve from the tension that the advert builds up feels amazing, but it definitely feels a little full-on for a LEGO set! See what you think below.

I showed this to a friend earlier, and he said it reminded him of the odd adverts that Nintendo used to post back in the 90s. And to be fair, he's right. Can you remember the strange advert for Kirby Super Star? Or the terrifying advert with the bus driver squashing all of the Pokémon in his bus? It turns out Nintendo have always had a bit of a horror streak in them, but at least Steve doesn't end up crushing Donkey Kong or getting kidnapped by a huge gorilla in real life in this advert!

The new DK Arcade LEGO Set is made up of 1,371 pieces and has an RRP of £149.99/$199.99. Pre-orders are live, with the set releasing on August 1st!
