New Pokemon Snap Game Announced For Nintendo Switch

  • June 17, 2020

Fasten your seatbelts and charge your camera because a New Pokémon Snap game has been announced for the Nintendo Switch!

Pokémon Snap was one of the most addictive and best N64 games on the console. While it might not be as well known as Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, it has a cult following of Pokémaniacs the world over, and now there’s finally going to be a sequel!

The Pokémon Company announced the new game, aptly titled ‘New Pokémon Snap’ on June 17th. I’ve watched the trailer around a hundred times already. The island looks amazing, and all of the Pokémon look so cool in their natural island habitat.

Get Ready For New Pokémon Snap!

What is Pokémon Snap?

For those of you that don’t know what Pokémon Snap is, it’s a game where you take snapshots of Pokémon instead of catching them in Poké balls. The ‘catch ’em all notion’ is the same, but the game concentrates more on epic visuals and Pokémon interaction rather than battling.

The player travels around in one of those rolling balls that they use on the Jurassic Park, snapping pocket monsters while they eat berries and get up to their own devices.

Back in 1999 when the original Pokémon Snap came out, the game redefined what fans thought a ‘Pokémon game’ should be. It has the same thrill of a Pokémon game, just like the trading card game on the GBC does!

That’s right, Trainers—#PokemonSnapIsBack! #NewPokemonSnap is an all-new adventure inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game.

Here’s a brief snippet of info from Pokémon Company –

The New Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo Switch system is based on its namesake, which was first released for the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. This game will take Trainers on an adventure to unknown islands overflowing with natural sights such as jungles and beaches, where they can research various Pokémon in their natural habitats. They will take photos to make their very own in-game Pokémon Photodex, all while discovering new, never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviours.

When Is It Coming Out?

The official game trailer tells us that New Pokémon Snap is a ‘game under construction’. We still don’t have any idea when the new game is coming out as this news is so…well, new! But rest assured, we’ll be sharing more information as soon as we get it.

One thing we do know is that Bandai Namco Studios will be taking the lead on the game. The original creators, HAL Laboratory, won’t be in charge this time.

Will New Pokémon Snap have the same magic as the original. If the trailer is anything to go by, we’re confident that it will.
