Now you can redeem yourself and make amends for ditching them for Pokemon and Digimon time and time again!

That’s right; a trip to Neopia could be on the cards for 2022 along with all the minigame and customisable madness that we know and love from playing with these furry friends.

Here’s everything we know about the internet chatter surrounding the new release and a brief recap of what Neopets are for anyone who has no idea what we’re talking about!

Everything We Know About The Possible New Neopets Game!

What Are Neopets?

Neopets are virtual pets that players must feed and look after in a virtual world. Using in-game virtual currency, gamers can buy items for their Neopets and treat them to some new features.

Remember when we did that article about the Atari NFT Sneakers? They’re a little like that, except these guys do more and can be upgraded…

What started out as a ‘Club Penguin-style’ website soon morphed into a video game series too. While not as popular as Pokemon, the Neopets made the leap from the PC and featured on the Nintendo DS, PSP and PS2!

How Do They Work?

The online Neopets game is all about looking after little critters and challenging other users to games and competitions. It’s like the Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle with an online community that gamers can chat to.

The home console and handheld games have more of a storyline to them rather than just an ‘Animal Crossing-style’ free-for-all. Still, with the huge success of New Horizons on the Switch and an open-world Pokemon title on the way, it’s left us wondering just what this new game could look like…

Where Did This New Neopets Game Rumour Come From?

Games Journalist Shannon Liao dropped the news about the new Neopets game while writing a piece on Flash Games for the Washington Post.

And the match that sparked the rumour flame? Well, the Neopets team declined to comment on whether they were bringing the franchise to the Nintendo Switch or not.

The Neopets team is thinking of bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch but declined to share further details.

— Shannon Liao (@Shannon_Liao) April 8, 2021

Why else would you decline to talk about something unless it was true? It all sounds a little too covert to us to be a lie, which makes us think that it could be happening sooner rather than later.

But what will the new game be like?

Will it resemble the Neopets mobile game that’s in the beta stage? Will there be a link up to the Switch game from mobile like Pokemon Home? Will it be a nostalgic replica of the very first game?

There are too many questions here, but hopefully we’ll know more real soon!

How Many Neopets Games Are There?

There are currently 4 Neopets computer games as well as a Trading Card Game.

  • Neopets: The Darkest Faerie – PS2
  • Neopets Puzzle Adventure – DS
  • Neopets: Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing – PSP
  • Neopets: Codestone Quest – Windows

When Will The New Neopets Game Release?

The new Neopets game could release as soon as 2022. It all depends on whether the Neopets team were stalling for time with their cryptic remark or whether they just want to keep us all hanging.

Whatever the outcome, we hope this nugget of news has got you excited. Fingers crossed we’ll hear more soon, so keep checking back to this article for regular updates!
