Analogue is known for dropping exciting releases on us without any prior warning; one minute we’re waiting for an Analogue Pocket restock (I’m still waiting for that limited edition green to come back), and the next I find a post from them about a brand new set of handhelds dropping that have blown my mind for more reasons than one.
Take a look at the featured image of this article; I’ve been drooling over it for a good ten minutes already. Four new Analogue Pockets, all cnc’d entirely from solid billet 6061 aluminium. The entire enclosure of the device is all one piece of premium, precision cut, aluminium that makes for an absolutely stunning handheld console that looks incredible.
That aluminium mean’s you’ll be gaming with a solid and sturdy console that feels weighty in the hands with a sense of premium quality that you just can’t get from a plastic casing, and some of the colours have me thinking about Nintendo’s famous handheld collection and are going straight to the top of my wish list.
The new aluminium handhelds come in Natural, Indigo, Black and Noir, which is a little like the Space Grey Macbooks/iPhones that Apple sell. I had a conversation with one of our followers on Instagram (thanks Aablooki) about the colour schemes and we are both of the opinion that the Silver and Indigo colour schemes were very similar to the GBA SP and the GBA, as well as the indigo used for the GameCube too. If I had to pick one of these new consoles to get, it would be the indigo in a heartbeat!
Of course, with a premium console comes a premium price tag. And in Analogue’s case, a seriously limited run. Analogue say that these handhelds will be ‘available in highly limited quantities’ and will go on sale on July 15th at 8am PDT. They’ll be shipping two days later on the 17th, which makes me think that these handhelds will sell out in a matter of hours.
In terms of price, each of these limited edition aluminium Analogue Pockets will cost $499.99 which is a pretty hefty price. That’s over twice the price of the classic black and white variants already out. Still, if you have the money, then these aluminium handhelds will certainly make for a perfect feature piece in your games room. Just make sure you don’t drop it on the cat while gaming… or your foot, or even the floor for that matter!
Of course, with a price point that high, many people might be holding out for the Chromatic handheld, but if you do want to get your hands on one of these new handhelds, then head to the Analogue store on July 15th!
