New $59 RetroTap Power Adapter Lets You Use 11 Retro Consoles At Once

retrotap

If you've been looking for a new, reliable way to plug all of your retro consoles into one power source with reliable safety features that won't burn your house down or blow out fuses, then this new invention known as RetroTap may be of interest to you.

Because let's face it, we've all tried putting all of our retro consoles out on display, ordering an extension cable with multiple sockets on it to plug in all the old technology in what we thought was an efficient way, to then be greeted with a cluttered mess with wires coming out of every angle. In the creator's words, the RetroTap "replaces ageing, bulky wall warts with a simplified, modern, central power solution."

It comes with integrated filtering and automatically resetting overcurrent protection; it supposedly delivers safe, ultra-low ripple, stable power your classic hardware can rely on. A single RetroTap distribution system powers up to 11 retro gaming consoles from one power supply, all housed within a premium injection-moulded enclosure shell and at a price of just $59.99.

Though note, the Dreamcast, PS2 and PSP are not on the list, and that is because they use mains AC and have internal power supplies; the RetroTap is for use with 9V DC consoles generally up to the fourth generation.

The team have also stated that extensive testing has been done on the RetroTap, alongside "6+ months of volunteer beta testing". The RetroTap will launch on September 3rd and be available in limited batches on their official website, while the small team takes control of demand.
