Today marks the day that the ModRetro M64 is available to buy on their official website for $229, and shipping begins today, meaning you could be lucky enough to receive it in just a few days, depending on how overloaded ModRetro gets over the coming days.
It's a brand new FPGA Nintendo 64 console with a wide range of incredible modern-day features, including 4K upscaling, a new wireless trident controller, lots of customisations, new games, 8-second boot time, no lag, overclocking and a whole lot more. It's honestly a remarkable device, and I recommend reading our full written review to understand why we gave it a 9.5/10.

With the announcement of availability, Palmer Lucky ended their livestream announcement today with a "one more thing", and that one more thing was a limited edition M64 only available to US customers at GameStop. This limited edition console comes in a new "Smoke" colourway, with deep dark blacks, a more minimal look and even comes with a smoke M64 controller too.
This is similar to what they did with the Chromatic, which they made a limited edition variant exclusively for GameStop fans, so this seems to be doing something similar, and keeping on that black and grey trend too.
It's available at GameStop today at $229 for the console and $89.99 for the limited edition Trident controller. Both have a later release date of 21st August 2026, so almost a month later than the newly released M64's on their official website. Nothing is different about this console in comparison to the non-limited editions; it's simply a cosmetic change.
