Kouzex is no stranger to us here at Retro Dodo. You might have checked out the recent article I wrote about his mission to make a Wiimote Joycons for the Switch too, and you might also remember the article that I did back in 2025 when he set out to make a Nintendo Switch-style dock for the 3DS, bringing his favourite games up onto his TV by docking his trusty handheld.
Well, Kouzex is back on the DS train, and this time he's turned the old-school DS that we all played brain training on for hours at a time into a home console with an HDMI port. It's called the Dual Station, and it comes with DS and GBA game slots, as well as wireless controller compatibility.
I know what you're thinking - no, you don't need to rip apart your own Nintendo DS to make this if you don't want to. You don't even need to break up a working one; all you need is the motherboard from a DS, and you can play your original carts on your TV or monitor with zero fuss.
You can choose between single-screen and dual-screen modes, and as the title eludes (I couldn't stop myself from telling you early on because it was so cool!), the console allows for touchpad support. So if you're using a PS4 or PS5 controller, you can tap, type, swipe, draw, and do everything else that you would do when using a stylus on the DS.
Kouzex is currently designing kits so that you can build a Dual Station for yourself. It's currently in the prototype design stage, but things are looking promising, and we might be able to get our hands on one soon!
