Today was the day we’ve all been waiting for with bated breath. It’s March 10th, which means it is International Mario Day – aka MAR10 Day 2023!
We knew we’d have a ton of exciting announcements and special surprises today and Mario certainly hasn’t disappointed us.
Especially knowing that we are not only celebrating Nintendo’s superstar, but also the incoming Super Mario Bros. Movie!
Nintendo already released their latest direct with the Super Mario Bros. Movie final trailer last night (it was technically already March 10 for some of us), but there have been lots more surprises in store for us today.
Let’s take a look at some of the other Mario related things that happened today in our MAR10 Day 2023 roundup!
1. Mario and Luigi’s Plumbing Van in New York
This is one of my favorite surprises that we saw today to promote the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie.
They pulled a real life Mario and Luigi Plumbing van up to the Nintendo store in New York!
It looks so incredibly good, and I absolutely wish I could drive one.
Just a test drive, Nintendo, maybe?
I can imagine it becoming a future trend to see people making their own Mario Plumbing vans, kinda like they do now with Jurassic Park jeeps.
What an awesome way to celebrate MAR10 Day 2023 and the Super Mario Bros. Movie release.
2. Mario’s Boots
Honestly, I’m not really sure why Nintendo decided to do this one, but they have produced some real Mario boots, modeled after the ones he wears in the upcoming movie.
Perhaps this decision comes on the back of the recent Astro Boy boots hype. They do look cute though, and maybe they think that these might one day overtake Doc Martens as the most popular boot on the market.
Sadly we think not, as Nintendo are saying these boots are a 1 of 1. So I don’t imagine there is any intention to produce these for us to wear.
If they did plan on making ones to wear, I’d suggest a cool Timberland collab. Slap a Mario logo on some of those, and I’m all in.
3. Nintendo eShop Sales
The Nintendo eShop is having a massive first party Mario sale right now for MAR10 Day 2023.
And that is kind of a rarity for the Nintendo first party games. Those almost never go on sale!
If you’ve been holding off on your digital copy of games like Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Mario Party Superstars… now’s the best time to get them.
I cannot recommend Luigi’s Mansion 3 enough; It’s on my top 10 of all time list.
These are the games currently being offered:
- Mario Party Superstars
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
- Luigi’s Mansion 3
- Luigi’s Mansion 3: Multiplayer Pack ($6.99)
- Luigi’s Mansion 3 + Multiplayer Pack Set ($46.98)
4. Mario Switch Bundle
This was another MAR10 Day 2023 special product that we knew was coming.
Nintendo gave us what feels like a very minimal effort Mario Switch Bundle.
It’s just got red joycons… that’s it. No cool Mario designs printed on it or anything.
The only cool thing about this bundle is that you get to choose Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, or Super Mario Odyssey to go along with your Switch.
Surely Nintendo is busy enough with the release of the Mario movie. They couldn’t really be bothered to put together anything all that crazy with this year’s Switch bundle.
5. Lego X Mario Announcements
Lego had a livestream today in celebration of MAR10 with new Mario related products.
We covered everything announced in our article here: Lego Announces Exciting New Mario Sets For MAR10 Day.
They broke down the creation of Mighty Bowser and King Sized Bowser, both of which we had seen before.
The most exciting new products were a Dry Bowser Castle and a new Donkey Kong character, both of which will make great additions to my growing Nintendo / Lego collection.
These new products are supposed to come this summer, so we’ve got a lot to look forward to in 2023!
