How To Get Sommie In Fire Emblem Engage

  • February 3, 2023
  • Emma Flint

There are many adorable perks to playing Fire Emblem Engage – like Sommie. Known as The Somniel Guardian, this little critter is epically cute. But if you’re only just starting out you might be wondering how to get Sommie in Fire Emblem Engage?

Never fear, I’ve got the goods you seek. The goods are Sommie… I hope that was clear!

Unlike the animals you can adopt for your Farmyard – which we covered in my how to adopt animals in Fire Emblem Engage guide – Sommie is different.

Neither animal nor spirit, Sommie has his own shrine on The Somniel, where you can worship him using cuddles, food, and accessories.

Yes, if you’re ready to spend a ridiculous amount of time fawning over this adorable creature, and gain some perks along the way, keep on reading.

How To Get Sommie In Fire Emblem Engage

To get Sommie in Fire Emblem Engage, you need to visit the Grotto to trigger a cutscene with Vander. Once you’ve done that you’ll be able to interact with Sommie on a regular basis.

Look for the cat icon on The Somniel map to fast travel to the Grotto if you’re unsure where to go.

It’s crucial you visit the Grotto and actually attempt to enter, otherwise the cutscene that unlocks Sommie won’t trigger – I speak from experience.

I didn’t unlock Sommie until Chapter 8: The Kingdom Of Might. To put that into perspective, The Somniel becomes your base after completing Chapter 4: A Land In Bloom.

Not visiting the Grotto won’t impede you furthering the story, it’ll just mean you’ll miss out on getting Bond Fragments. Although you can earn them other ways, any means of farming Bond Fragments is worth your time.

How To Earn Sommie Rewards

How To Get Sommie In Fire Emblem Engage - Sommie Rewards

To earn Sommie rewards you should visit Sommie’s Shrine at the Grotto regularly. Alear will get 100 Bond Fragments for petting and another 100 for feeding.

As fun as playing dress up with Sommie is, it won’t give you any Bond Fragments. But it will strengthen your connection, so it’s definitely worthwhile to play around with the latest Sommie fashion.

Keep in mind that while you’ll get Bond Fragments, those rewards will only happen the first pet or feed you give Sommie each time. Any further interactions on the same day can increase its friendliness towards you, but won’t gain additional materials.

As well as gifting Bond Fragments, Sommie can also join in when you complete strength training, fishing, and wyvern riding.

Their presence will give you a major morale boost, and make it more likely you’ll succeed in your task.

Besides that, you’ll also get to listen to Sommie’s little tippy tappy toe beans as they follow you around The Somniel. My personal favourite.

Oh, and if you don’t keep on top of your visits to Sommie Shrine their bond with you will decrease.

Wow, turns out there’s quite a bit to do at The Somniel! Now you’ve learnt how to get Sommie in Fire Emblem Engage, maybe you want to learn how to cook in Fire Emblem Engage as well? Just like with getting Sommie, there’s perks involved!
