The world of Terastallizing is still quite new to us, though having spent the last few weeks playing Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, we’re starting to adjust to life as a Paldean trainer.
But did you know you can change your Pokemon’s Tera Type?
And, more importantly, it’s incredibly easy to do.
However, before you all start celebrating, while changing a Pokemon’s Tera Type isn’t difficult, obtaining the items you need to begin the process is.
If you’re as curious as I am to learn more, and become the very best, even better than Ash, you’ll want to keep reading.
How To Change Tera Types In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
To easily change Tera Types you need to beat Larry (Medali Gym), then return to the Treasure Eatery by Medali (East) Pokemon Center. Go to the bar and you’ll meet a chef who can cook a meal that’ll change Tera Types.
You can’t miss the chef – they have a giant, yellow speech bubble above their head.
Although this chef can indeed change Tera types, you need to give said chef x50 Tera Shards of the type you want to change to, e.g. x50 Rock Tera Shards to change Chansey’s Normal Tera Type to Rock.
That’s great if you have x50 Tera Shards, but they’re actually hard to come by. I only had that many because I completed the friendship side quest for Ms. Tyme (which I recommend doing to get extra rewards).
Luckily, if you want to test out what’s on offer at the Treasure Eatery, the chef will give you x50 Normal Tera Shards as a way of congratulating you for beating Larry.
But if you want to experiment with more exciting Tera Types, you’re going to have to battle and/or go treasure hunting.
Where To Find Tera Shards
You can either get Tera Shards from Tera Raids, or from searching for hidden objects down in the Great Crater of Paldea.
Given that you don’t learn how to reach Area Zero until much later in the game, the most obvious choice to get Tera Shards is to join Raids.
But there’s a catch even with that: you need to partake in Tera Raids that are classified as three stars or higher. In fact, the higher the better. And even then, you’ll only get a handful of Shards, meaning you’ll need to execute a lot of Raids to get x50 of any one type.
I’m not saying it’s impossible, just very, very hard work.
Still, if you have a lot of online friends, or simply enjoy looking for unusual Tera Type Pokemon, then Tera Raids are going to be a treasure trove of possibilities for you.
If you’d prefer to try your look searching every inch of Area Zero, look out for those golden specks on the ground and for glowing red Pokeballs. When I found one, I got x3 Bug Tera Shards. That isn’t much, but it’s a start.
