Best Games Like Fable To Add To Your Collection

You been craving gaming experiences like Fable? Well we have you covered! Here is our list of the 12 best games like Fable in 2023.

In case you didn’t know, Fable is one of those RPG series’ that has become quite the cult classic.

Not that sales were a big problem. It wasn’t exactly an unknown title either.

Fans and critics consider it one of the best RPG titles of the early 21st century.

And with its playful tone, its use of choice based dialogue, and live combat… it’s a particular flavor that players tend to desire in their RPG games.

We found ten amazing titles that should surely hold you over while we all wait for the reboot that is currently in development!

So here they are: 12 of the best games like Fable…

12. Kynseed (2018)

Kynseed

Kynseed is an absolutely gorgeous game developed by PixelCount Studios that was released in 2018.

And while it might have you thinking you are playing one of the 15 Best SNES RPGs from the 90s, it shares a lot more in common with modern RPGs.

And Kynseed was actually developed by two of the people who brought us Fable!

Kynseed

Much like Fable, dialogue plays a huge part in the exploration of the world you find yourself in.

That might be where most of the similarities end, honestly. But it is still a very enjoyable RPG experience, nonetheless.

And knowing it came directly from developers of Fable makes you want to see how that DNA made its way into Kynseed.

Definitely worth checking out for fans of the Fable series.

11. Overlord II (2009)

games like fable - Overlord 2 PS3

Overlord is up next in our best games like fable list!

Even when you win hell as your very own and rule dominion over it, it still manages to find a way to screw you over.

The Overlord is trapped in hell, but his son, who we’ll call ‘Overlad’, is brining vengeance by the bucket load.

What would you do if I told you that this was like a cross between Fable and Pikmin… with some monstrous activity thrown in for good measure?

Work with different types of henchmen, each little minion bearing a different colour to signify what it does.

See; monstrous Pikmin!

Upgrade Signor Overlad and his critters as the game goes on, stopping angry elves and other mythical creatures as you progress.

So it’s weird, but that’s why I love it. It looks very much like Fable, and there’s magical goblins. Do I really need to say anything else?

10. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (2020)

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an amazing game that was released in 2012, and had all of the necessary parts to make a great RPG!

It had particularly favorable reviews, as a game with solid RPG battle mechanics (Live combat. We love it!).

So when a 2020 remaster was released, we were all that much more excited about the game.

With a fully voiced NPC cast, dialogue will play an important part of your explorations, much like Fable.

And “Re-Reckoning” makes just enough improvement while still leaving the core of the original game intact.

And that is what we love about it.. it still feels like 2000s RPGs.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

Obviously, the modern RPGs are great. We love them. We really can’t get enough of them.

But for fans of Fable, like us, we sometimes want that older feel. The feel that RPGs had in the early 2000s.

And we can say that Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a perfect addition to our list of games like Fable, and one you definitely need to try out if you have not already.

9. Gothic II (2005)

Gothic II

The Gothic game series is one that, for anyone unfamiliar with either, could easily be mistaken for Fable.

Visually, they are very similar.

And as an action RPG with gameplay focused on choice… it’s easy to compare the two.

Gothic II

Both have their own approach to combat and progression, but essentially it’s the same stuff.

Also, the humor of Fable is not quite as forefront in Gothic.

But small differences aside, I would suggest you check out the Gothic series, especially the iteration considered the best: Gothic II.

8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Like a lot of games to come later on this list, The Witcher is a game franchise you are probably already familiar with.

But for anybody who is a fan of Fable, and looking for adjacent gaming experiences… The Witcher is absolutely a great choice.

Similar in tone and its use of humor, just a little more realistic in its graphics and more in depth with its mechanics.

Maybe it could be thought of as the mature Fable.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

If you have never played it, there is never a better time:

There have been a ton of remaster/re-release situations for the game, so it is available on pretty much any platform you’d like to use.

An easy addition to our list of best games like Fable.

7. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (2006)

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Final Fantasy XII is my number one favorite Final Fantasy entry. And it holds a very high spot on my personal best games ever list.

One aspect of the game that I really appreciate is the live combat. It is something that I prefer in my RPGs.

So if you are a fan of live action combat in Fable, this might be another great game for you to try out.

The game also features some amazing characters, an awesome storyline, and beautiful visuals.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Though the visual tone of Fable tends to feel dark, it’s content always felt much lighter to me. And the same holds true for Final Fantasy XII.

It is a masterpiece of a fantasy RPG, and one that should not be missed by anyone even remotely interested in RPGs in general.

But for fans of Fable, this one is an easy addition to the list of games like Fable that you need to try.

6. Dark Cloud 2 (2002)

Dark Cloud 2

Looking for an oldschool RPG gaming experience like Fable?

Well why not take a look at one of our best PS2 RPGs? Dark Cloud 2!

Though the visuals are much more playful, the dialogue and play style feel very akin to that of Fable.

Dark Cloud 2

Packed with a ton of character dialogue, and live action combat… just more cute and colorful.

Dark Cloud 2 is one of our absolute favorite RPGs, and should be an easy fit for fans of Fable looking for that same light-hearted vibe.

5. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (2002)

The elder Scrolls Morrowind game case Xbox - games like Fable

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind takes the 5th spot in this list of the best games like Fable!

Mororwind hardly needs an introduction; all the other fantasy-loving nerds like me out there will undoubtedly have played it at least once in their lives or read about it at least.

Not only is this one of the best Magic games of all time, but it’s also a fantastic story to immerse yourself in and a bona fide Xbox classic.

Bethesda are kings and queens when it comes to their craft, and there’s a very strong chance you might see the sequel to Morrowind a little further down this list.

Open world games don’t come much better than The Elder Scrolls series, and the fact that Morrowind has some serious D&D vibes in it definitely makes it a winner in our eyes.

With a plot so in depth it would take all the scrolls in Albion to explain it, fans of Fable, Final Fantasy, the Tales series, and more will feel right at home here.

It won game of the year, after all (I probably should have led with that one).

4. Risen (2009)

Risen

If you are a fan of Fable and RPGs, then you very likely have also heard of Risen.

Similar in aesthetic and game play style, Risen is an action RPG with real time, live combat.

Risen thrusts you into a giant world to explore with a bunch of characters to meet…

And, like fable, your goal is to rise from humble beginnings to become a mighty warrior.

Risen

At their core, I would say that Risen and Fable are a similar experience, and if you are a fan of one, you are probably gonna be a fan of the other.

So if you are looking for games like Fable, Risen is an easy goto. Check it out!

3. Torchlight 2 (2012)

Torchlight 2

Torchlight 2 is a wonderful Diablo-like RPG that has a little more quirky character and not so much evil injected in its veins (see our 10 Best Games Like Diablo article).

And that feels very much like Fable to us.

A light-hearted fantasy experience in an exciting world to explore.

Torchlight 2

While the game play style and visuals are gonna be much different than the Fable experience, it is still a game that we feel shares the same energy.

Just a fun time in a fantasy world, where you get to do some role-playing and pretend to be someone else for a while.

2. Dragon Age: Origins (2009)

Dragon Age: Origins

Another amazing RPG game that uses live combat, and has a large focus on character interactions.

We recently created a full article about the best Dragon Age games, giving us a chance to look back at the amazing series and pick it apart.

And some of its best features are its wonderful storytelling, and the interactions you will have with the characters within. And, of course, those interactions may change the course of your story all together.

Dragon Age: Origins

Each and every Dragon Age game is an experience not to be missed. But we have to give “Origins” the edge if you are talking about games like Fable.

It has that oldschool, early 2000s RPG vibe that we love. And we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful gaming experience.

1. Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (2011)

This might be a no-brainer, but if you are a fan of RPGs that focus on exploration, character interactions, and just a bunch of cool stuff to do…

Why not play one of the absolute Best PS3 RPG Games Of All Time? Number one, in fact!

Though the Skyrim world has a slightly darker flavor, it is hard to not see the similarities in the two beloved franchises.

And it would be an easy argument to say that Skyrim perhaps gives everything that Fable does, and so much more.

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

As a winner of a ton of awards and making an appearance on almost every best games lists… Skyrim is an absolute titan of a video game.

And if you happen to be one of the few who have not picked it up in its 20 or so releases, there are a ton of characters to meet and interact with, lots of enemies to battle, and so much to discover in every corner of its gigantic world.

It almost seems like a useless task to even describe this game at this point.

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is one of our favorite games of all time, and it is an easy goto for anyone looking for an awesome RPG experience.

And if you are a fan of Fable, and need something else to explore, Skyrim is the absolute best game like Fable in 2023.
