Epilogue Releases Smartphone App For Your GAME BOY Camera

Epilogue Releases Smartphone App For Your GAME BOY Camera

Ever since Epilogue released their brand new SN Operator, a premium SNES cartridge reader for your PC & Mac, they've been busy releasing updates to an array of their products and applications. Firstly, their app Retrace got the SN Operator update it deserves, allowing you to authenticate your carts on your smartphone using the cartridge reader.

And now, they've released a brand new application called Flashback, which not only allows you to take pictures that look identical to a GAME BOY Camera using your smartphone camera, but it also allows you to use the GAME BOY Camera cartridge itself when paired with their GB Operator cartridge reader.

Epilogue Flashback App

"Every frame is built the way the original built it: 128×112 pixels (about 14 kilopixels all in, yes, kilopixels), dropped to four shades and dithered into that grainy gradient. In Hardware Mode, that's the real sensor doing the work. In Software Mode, it's the same math, recreated faithfully on your phone. Either way, your shots come out the way the camera's would, not some generic retro preset" states Epilogue.

In the app Flashback comes with over 30 palletes to choose from, featuring the original grayscale, to classic GAME BOY green all the way up to custom filters such as Ice Cream, Spacehaze, Gold, Velvet Cherry and more. Not only can you use these filters for photos, but for video too, and it will use your microphone to capture audio, creating a really unique way of making nostalgic content.

Customisations go even deeper, should you want to change Shutter Speed, Gain, Exposure, Sharpness, Dither, Grain and more. Epilogue has gone all out here and kept the minimal design language that they use across their entire brand, which makes things very simple to understand and use.

The app is available today for free via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. On iOS, you just need to be updated to 17.2 and beyond, and of course, if you want to use the GB Operator, you need a USB-C port. On Android, you need to be updated to 8.0 and beyond. It's also available on Mac too. Time to find your old GAME BOY Camera!
