Nintendo have a big team of people working on their games. We know from speaking with people like Jez San who have been affiliated with Nintendo in the past, or other devs like Simon Phipps who have worked on some of our favourite retro games just how big these teams can be. So when one dev takes on the challenge of making a fanmade title based on an existing series and does an incredible job at it, then it shows just how skilled they actually are.
Take a look at Paper Mario: Star Nova, a game created by NicTube entirely on their own. It's available to download for free, but due to Nintendo's lawyers being very trigger-happy, I suggest you do a web search for the game yourself or poke around in YouTube descriptions (you'll find it very easily).
Star Nova is a full-scale mod of Paper Mario 64, with new chapters, a new storyline, a brand new world, and new characters. You'll team up with new faces to fight new bosses and collect over 70 new star pieces throughout Stellaria.
Bear in mind that this is a brand new game built from the ground up by a single developer - that's mega impressive. Currently, the game doesn't work on physical consoles via Flash Cart or through FPGA, so you'll need to use an emulator like Delta to get it up and running. There are also patching instructions that you'll find after searching for the game's title.
The release trailer is amazing, and the gameplay really does look like something that Nintendo could have put out into the world, especially the camera angles when characters move in cutscenes. It's fast-paced, energetic, colourful, and everything else you would expect from a true Paper Mario game. Plus im much more of a fan of the N64 aesthetic than newer consoles, as you know, so I'm loving what NicTube has done with this release!
