Cuphead Developers Announce New SEGA Master System Game "Mighty Cuphead Adventure"

Cuphead Developers Announce New SEGA Master System Game "Mighty Cuphead Adventure"

I love seeing “modern” studios and developers create retro versions of their games, and even more so when it’s available for retro consoles, physically. It’s the subtle nod to an era that changed the industry for good and also shines a spotlight on systems that are simpler, don’t require all of the fluff and don’t feature distractions that modern gaming brings, such as downloads, micro transactions and over-complicated gameplay that removes you from the story.

So this news that the studio MDHR, the guys behind the incredible Cuphead, are making a literal retro video game was music to my ears and something I didn’t see coming, even if Cuphead’s gameplay is perfect for retro gamers with taste.

It was officially revealed at this year’s Summer Games Fest during a “special bulletin video” created by MDHR themselves, filmed as if it were a new anchor describing the releases and announcements with the words “this game is a love letter to the era that brought us into the world of video games”.This new video game is called “Mighty Cuphead Adventure”, and it will be released on Modern consoles, PC and even the SEGA Master System. The video teased perhaps 10 seconds of gameplay with a shot of the game being played. It’s a “fast-paced, platform shooter” featuring the classic Cuphead characters alongside retro-inspired enemies to defeat, keeping the Cuphead charm which we are all familiar with.

“Mighty Cuphead Adventure is programmed in classic Assembly Language and designed with the exacting specifications of the Sega Master System home gaming console in mind. While the game will absolutely be compatible with modern consoles and PC, players who want a true blast from the past will be able to experience it on a physical cartridge on the Sega Master System home gaming console.” states MDHR.

As of right now, there is no information regarding release date, pricing and if it comes with a digital and/or physical release. All we can do right now is hold on tight for more information. We’ll keep you updated when we hear it, or subscribe to our free newsletter, so you don’t miss out!
