CryZENx's version of Ocarina of Time kept us all intrigued for a decade. We watched their videos in awe, hoping and waiting for their UE5 remake of the best game of all time to drop and give us all a brand new way of enjoying the ultimate Hylian adventure. Sadly, Nintendo beat CryZENx to it, meaning that their hard work had to be shelved.
Honestly, I felt gutted for them - their work had amassed millions of views on YouTube, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo hadn't seen the remake and thought 'you know what, we need to get our act together and get making this asap!'
Still, all is not lost, as CryZENx is now turning to The Minish Cap for inspiration, creating a Wind Waker-esque version of the game where Ezlo actually helps you defeat enemies in the field. It's cel-shaded brilliance, and the best part is that an early-access version is going to be available to play very soon!
CryZENx started work on the game as soon as their Ocarina project was cancelled back in July. They are also working on creating a smartphone version of the game too which will be great - I would love to play this on my phone while sitting on the train, but having it available to play on one of my retro handhelds would be even better.
The test level in the footage above looks fantastic too, and I'm really excited to see how CryZENx deals with the transitions involved with turning smaller and entering the world of the Picori. This is one of the Zelda canon's best handheld games, and I think the updated graphical style and the fact that it's now in 3D will make so many gamers more interested in checking it out. Of course, if you want to play the original and don't have a cartridge to hand, then you can check it out on your Nintendo Switch on Nintendo Switch Online, so long as you're an Expansion Pack subscriber.
CryZENx has said that an early access version will be available on their Patreon in the next couple of days, so make sure to sign up if you want to check it out before everyone else!
