Think you know everything about the PS1? Think again, because a new cheat that has remained unnoticed by the retro gaming world has just been documented after 29 years. Heck, we even podcasted with the team behind Croc: Legend of the Gobbos and they never mentioned the fact that there was a hidden cheat lurking on the main menu.

It's not the kind of cheat that will revolutionise your experience greatly, but its still a neat little feature nonetheless. You can add your position info to the HUD (head-up display) by following two simple steps.

  • Press Triangle and Select together when on the main menu
  • Make sure 'Credits' has appeared as a selectable option and is highlighted, then press Square and Circle at the same time.

Like I said, it's not going to make you play any better or bring up new levels or anything, but the fact that this cheat has remained under the radar for almost three decades is wild!

And it seems to be happening more and more too. Just last week, I wrote about a set of cheats for Ken Griffey Jr’s Winning Run that allow you to unlock secret teams from the very beginning, and they've been hidden for 30 years too. How are these secrets still being uncovered after so long? Someone will probably discover that you can play as Yoshi in Super Mario Land next (wouldn't that be something!).
