A new demo for upcoming Contra revival, Operation Galuga, is now available on digital storefronts for players to blast through.
The demo for Contra: Operation Galuga was unveiled during today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase which also revealed several retro titles arriving on the Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2024.
Fans of the long-running shoot’em up series can now grab the demo for Contra: Operation Galuga on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series, and on PC via Steam.
Operation Galuga also received a release date, with the latest Contra title scheduled for a full release on the 12th of March 2024.
The game was originally revealed during Nintendo’s September Direct so it’s fitting the demo announcement and release date reveal also appeared at a Nintendo showcase.
First Impressions
Players can jump into the combat boots of Bill Rizer or Lance Bean and equip perks to help them out in the field of battle.
I’ve been taking the Contra: Operation Galuga demo for a spin on my Nintendo Switch and my first impressions are that the visual presentation is surprisingly pretty, with crisp 2.5D graphics and some beautiful fiery effects courtesy of an explosive helicopter crash and a volley of rockets.
Excellent voice acting brings the introductory cutscenes to life and the voice in your ear during missions feels authentically cheesy like the best 80s action movies.
Gameplay will be familiar to fans of classic Contra, with the action not straying too far from the tried and test path of shooting everything that moves, and you know, it’s still great fun!
We’ll be sure to bring you more information on all the latest happenings in the Contra series as they arrive, and in the meantime, you can check out all the other great announcements from today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase in the video below.
