In a world of PS5s and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, you might not think that there would be much love for the Commodore 64 anymore. Well, you'd be very wrong, as a dedicated Commodore following still lives on and has just produced a Linux-based operating system to give a new lease of life to Commodore systems.
It's called 'Commodore OS Vision 3.0' and is available to install onto your Commodore 64X right now! According to the official blurb, 'Commodore OS Vision 3.0 is the largest, games oriented, Linux distribution ever produced, featuring 200+ free linux compatible games as well as an assortment of classic Commodore games and demos that will undoubtedly scratch your nostalgic itch.'
Commodore OS Vision 3.0 is designed to implement the ideals and essence of retro computer gaming in a modern world while bringing a new version of BASIC for gamers to make their own C64 games complete with 'built-in sprites, built-in tilemaps, 2D and 3D physics and user types,' as well as using tools to build apps aswell. There's also a new settings manager as well as demos and chiptune tracks to check out.
