Chibi-Robo Returns In Spiritual Successor To The Classic GameCube Game

chibi robo successor koROBO

While many people in the world are getting excited about AI taking over, all I want is a tiny robot that I can be friends with who can help me with chores around the house. And no, I’m not talking about a sophisticated Roomba, I’m talking bout Chibi-Robo.

This charming game first dropped onto the GameCube in 2005 and has garnered a cult following despite poor sales. And because of poor sales, it now has a pretty steep price tag in second-hand shops, with a store near me pricing it at £170. I’ve been waiting for a long time for a proper sequel to this game, a sequel that was as good as the original and not the boring 3DS Zip-Lash game Nintendo released (there’s a reason why the same shop is selling this game for £3.50…).

Well, in the same way that Playtonic Games made Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series, there’s a spiritual sequel for Chibi-Robo coming from Tiny Wonder Studio, and it’s called koROBO. And here’s the best bit – the developers of the original game are behind it!

Yes, with the original team on board, this is the game that we’ve all been hoping for in everything but character style and name. Having said that, koRobo looks just as cute as our original protagonist and features the same level of gameplay that we loved from the GameCube game.

Fans interested in koROBO can support Tiny Wonder by going to their Kickstarter campaign and giving them money to help with the game’s development. Considering how fans have wanted a new game in this series for the longest time, this can be their chance to get a similar experience. From looking at the launch trailer, there are tonnes of exciting areas for this tiny robot to explore, getting stuck into day-to-day life as he assists his humans with activities. He can even fly across rooms using a jetpack too!

The project already has over 2,000 followers before even launching. I think that this game is going to definitely surpass its goal in the first couple of days (I’ll definitely be putting some money forward), and who knows – this could spark Nintendo to get back on board in the future for a Chibi-Robo/koROBO crossover!
