I grew up with cats and Pokémon, so I found them making their way into my team throughout Gen 1, 2 and 3. They're not only adorable, but highly effective if trained well, and as the years go on, the Cat Pokémon keep getting better and better designs that many of us enjoy catching.
So, as a fan of both, I wanted to put together this guide in hope that it can help you build the dream Pokémon team, including many of your feline friends!
Meowth

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 4kg
- Evolves: Level 28
- Generation: 1
Meowth is the first feline Pokémon, featured heavily in the animated TV series as one of Team Rocket's members, and is one of the only Pokémon in the TV show to be able to speak. Though many despise it in the original shows/games, it has soon become the most popular cat Pokémon of the franchise, going from pesky to pawesome, and has a wide range of modern variations too.
Alolan Meowth

- Type: Dark
- Weight: 4kg
- Evolves: when it has high friendship levels.
- Generation: 7
Alolan Persian was introduced in Pokémon Sun & Moon and is a Dark-type regional form of Meowth, featuring darker fur, a more relaxed expression and originates from royalty, quite the opposite of the original Meowth!
Galarian Meowth

- Type: Steel
- Weight: 7.5kg
- Evolves: Level 28
- Generation: 8
Another regional form of Meowth is the Galarian Meowth, introduced in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This furry feline features a far more aggressive, wild look and is a Steel type thanks to the sharp claws, black metal coin on its head and a heavy focus on its evolution. This is a Pokémon you'd not want to meet late at night, that's for sure.
Gigantamax Meowth

- Type: Normal
- Weight: N/A
- Generation: 1
If you're a fan of the original Meowth but want to stretch it like Play-Doh and make it 10x as big, then you're in luck, as the Gigantamax version, which was introduced in Pokémon Sword & Shield, makes Meowth bigger, stronger, faster and even scarier.
Perrserker

- Type: Steel
- Weight: 28kg
- Evolves:
- Generation: 8
Now, although this isn't technically a Meowth, it does evolve from Galarian Meowth, which many expected would be a Persian, but in fact it is an entirely new Pokémon. Featuring Steel daggers on its claws, a Viking-like helmet with the iconic coin and a grey beard to match its galairan form.
Persian

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 32kg
- Generation: 1
Then there's Persian, the evolution of Meowth, taking design inspiration from the Persian cat breed, focusing on royalty, elegance and power, which makes it a great companion for the head of Team Rocket. This Pokémon is fast, nimble and a great, strong member of any team and replaced Meowth's coin with a rarer jewel.
Alolan Persian

- Type: Dark
- Weight: 33kg
- Generation: 7
Again, an opposite Alolan form is Dark-Type Alolan Persian, featuring a larger, rounder, less elegant face, and it replaced the infamous coin with a blue jewel, pairing it with darker fur, thicker paws and a more relaxed vibe.
Skitty

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 11kg
- Evolves: Using a Moon Stone
- Generation: 3
The adorable little Skitty looks harmless, and that's because it mostly is until it's evolved using a Moon Stone, but if you want to keep an adorable feline Pokémon on your team, then this pink and cream coloured little thing will undoubtedly be one of the cutest Pokémon in your arsenal, for sure.
Delcatty

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 33kg
- Generation: 3
Delcatty evolves from Skitty, and sharpens its roundedness with big purple ears, a purple scarf, a small tail and an elegant, calming look that matches its personality. It's fast, has good, quick attacks and is probably one of the "cattiest" looking cats of the bunch, behind Meowth.
Shinx

- Type: Electric
- Weight: 10kg
- Evolves: Level 15
- Generation: 4
The first Electric-type Cat on the list is the cool, chilled out Sphinx, with blue tiny, yellow stars on the ears and tail and an adorable attitude that will make Electric-type fans very happy thanks to not one, but two evolutions that you can explore with this Pokémon.
Luxio

- Type: Electric
- Weight: 30kg
- Evolves: Level 30
- Generation: 4
Luxio takes what was cool about Shinx and makes it even cooler, with a more aggressive look, a glued-up fringe, a bigger star on the tail and a larger stance/ It packs more power, keeps the blue and black look with yellow hints and is ready to be taken to the next, and final evolution.
Luxray

- Type: Electric
- Weight: 42kg
- Generation: 4
The final evolution line of Shinx features an aggressive Cat design, with Goku-like hair, 3 golden rings around its front legs instead of the original 21 or 2, and a bigger stance that packs a serious shock when hit. It knows a lot of strong moves, is fast and destroys water Pokémon in no time at all. It's one of the coolest Cat Pokémon on the list, in my opinion.
Glameow

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 4kg
- Evolves: Level 38
- Generation: 4
A very cat-like Pokémon from Gen 4 is Glameow, a normal-type Pokémon that uses its tail to attract prey as if it were dancing or blowing in the wind. Once close enough, Glameow uses its fast attacks to get the upper hand, hoping to get itself higher in level to evolve into something... more ugly?
Purugly

- Type: Normal
- Weight: 44kg
- Generation: 4
This cat looks like it can't be bothered by anything, and you'd be somewhat right. Purugly is a large, rotund cat that uses its body weight and large fur in a way to make itself look bigger than it is, intimidating its foes where it can without the need to attack. Though it may look large and slow, it's remarkably fast for its size.
Purrloin

- Type: Dark
- Weight: 10kg
- Evolves: Level 20
- Generation: 5
Purrloin is a mischeavious Pokémon, one that likes to steal and hide away, out of trouble, even if it starts it. It's a dark pink Pokémon, with sharp, feline expressions, as if it knows it's troublesome, but won't admit it.
Liepard

- Type: Dark
- Weight: 38kg
- Generation: 5
Purrloin evolves into Liepard at level 20, keeping the elegance and troublesome look, but now with subtle nods from the Leopard. With a larger body, bigger legs, a longer tail and even harsher attacks. It's a great member of any Pokémon team, especially for those of you who want a leopard on the team.
Litten

- Type: Fire
- Weight: 4kg
- Evolves: 17
- Generation: 7
Litten is one of the three starter Pokemon available in Pokemon Sun & Moon (and also Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon), more specifically, the fire-type Pokémon, in cat form. Litten, like most cats focus on Speed, using its quick attacks paired with newly learned fire moves to beat its opponents. It's a great starter Pokémon for those wanting to bat away the pesky bug Pokémon in the early game.
Torracat

- Type: Fire
- Weight: 25kg
- Evolves: Level 34
- Generation: 7
Torracat is a bigger, stronger, faster version of Litten, obviously. It looks like a more mature cat, with a black and red pattern, yellow eyes and a bell on its neck as if it were wearing a collar. It also has a larger tail and claws to increase its special attack. It evolves at level 34.
Incineroar

- Type: Fire
- Weight: 83kg
- Generation: 7
If you were patiently waiting and levelling up Torracat nicely, you'll be greeted with the beastly Incineroar, a two-legged cat with a big chest, large hands for attacking with its claws and a belt made of fire, as if its turned into a super powerful wrestler with fur, and sharp teeth.
Sprigatito

- Type: Grass
- Weight: 4kg
- Evolves: Level 16
- Generation: 9
One of the more popular cats in recent years is Sprigatito, the grass starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, alongside a number of appearances in modern TV shows, too. Sprigatito is very cat-like, with large eyes, big ears, a rounded head and a small body, showing off leaves around its neck like a mane. It evolves at level 16.
Floragato

- Type: Grass
- Weight: 12kg
- Evolves: Level 36
- Generation: 9
Sprigatito, once it evolves into Floragato, learns to stand on two feet very quickly, adding fast attacks to its arsenal, alongside a larger mane that falls down to its belly, sharper claws, and a posture that's ready to fight dirty. It's a strong Pokémon that needs looking after as it evolves into one of the strongest Grass-type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet
Meowscarada

- Type: Grass/Dark
- Weight: 31kg
- Evolves: Level 36
- Generation: 9
Meowscarada takes what was great from its prevolution and makes it greater. This design has a more human-like nature to it, featuring no mane and instead a leafy scarf that's used to balance itself instead of a tail. It can also throw bettiers and has a mask-like feature on its face to stay hidden using its camouflage in grassy areas. It's a mighty Pokémon that many have chosen throughout their adventures in Scarlet and Violet, and for good reason, it's powerful and features an array of impressive grass and dark-type moves.
