We all love the Power Rangers, but without the best Power Rangers villains to get them riled up, there wouldn’t be much of a programme for us to watch, would there?
There have been some pretty colourful characters over the years posing a threat to our favourite crime fighting squad, with some villains standing out as being the best in not just the Power Rangers franchise, but of any TV show going!
Looking past the Putty Patrollers and the bosses that got kicked into touch by the Megazord, who were the villains that got us angry, the baddies that made us mad, and the ones that we couldn’t help but love despite their evil ways.
Let’s find out!
Note – The Power Rangers villains in the main body of this article are solely from the TV series and not from the comics. But, we have included a bonus feature of our favourite comic villain at the bottom of this list as an extra treat for those hardcore fans out there.
Table of Contents
10. Admiral Malkor (Megaforce)

Admiral Malkor kickstarts this list of the best Power Rangers villains of all time, and along with his mammoth Warstar armada, he makes things incredibly tough for the Megaforce Rangers.
Malkor is loved by fans because it took all of the classic rangers teaming together to take him down. He’s a brainy foe and doesn’t let defeat get him down or affect his concentration. He lives for battle and appreciates the prowess of his foes.
And he looks like a weird moth, and lots of people are afraid of moths!
9. Scorpina (Mighty Morphin’)

Scorpina played a massive part in one of the best stories in all of Power Rangers history – the arrival of Tommy as the Green Ranger.
A woman that becomes a Scorpion when enlarged by Rita Repulsa, Scorpina is one of Rita’s mates and is eventually thwarted. She only appeared in four episodes, but fans still love her to this day.
That’s largely down to the fact that she’s been kept alive in the comic book series and has had a lot of action since those early days in the series.
She goes on to become the Black Drakkon Ranger, and the Drakkon Rangers are a whole different ballgame entirely! (Keep going to find out what ‘Drakkon’ means).
8. Astronema (Space)

Astronema takes the 8th spot in this list of the best Power Rangers villains of all time.
Dubbed ‘The Princess of Evil’, she makes epic monsters using her magical abilities and never fails to put the Rangers in a tough position.
And, like Scorpina, she’s one of those villains that still resonates with fans today.
I think it’s because of her deep storyline and the major reveal of how she is linked to the rangers that helped to cement her as a firm favourite, along with the fact that she has a story that is as deep and intricate as the Rangers themselves.
And on a surface level, she looks epic too. But then again, I guess you wouldn’t really tell the head of the United Alliance of Evil that she looked rubbish, would you?
7. Diabolico (Lightspeed Rescue)

Diabolico looks a little like Goldar on steroids, and before joining the rangers to take on Queen Banshera, he was the one getting his hands dirty and doing her bidding.
You can tell the guy is evil due to the fact he has a massive skull on his chest, but his face doesn’t look any more friendly to be honest.
He actually saved, then kidnapped and trained one of the future rangers too. That sounds like a big mistake to me as people in these series tend to swap sides and use their powers against people all the time, but what do I know!
Diabolico is a bit of a complicated character as he had a lot of love for his fellow demons. Remember the sadness he showed from killing Loki right before defecting – this guy is deep!
6. Venjix (RPM)

It’s mad that a computer virus could cause such widespread pandemonium for the Power Rangers, but when you see Venjix in its new body, then it all starts to make sense.
Before getting a body to fight the Rangers directly however, it took over almost half of the worlds computers, destroyed defence mechanisms, attacked firewalls, and left areas defenceless for its minions and attack bots to conquer.
Tenaya was one of its favourite attack bots, and there’s a strong chance that you’re going to see her further down this list too!
In its Attack Bot mode, Venjix looks so badass. It’s like a cross between Magneto and one of the VR Troopers, which is pretty much how every kid from the 90s wanted to look!
5. Rita Repulsa (Mighty Morphin’)

The scheming sorceress Rita Repulsa is up next, the original baddie from the very first Power Rangers series and the redesigned villain from the latest Power Rangers movie!
Rita Repulsa was relentless; she never stopped sending bad guys down to earth to destroy Zordon and his Rangers. She never really succeeded in doing much, but she was incredibly inventive with her schemes.
And, she’s one of the longest running baddies too, appearing in four different iterations of the Power Rangers!
She almost succeeded in turning Tommy evil forever too, and if you love your comic lore, then it could be argued that she actually did!
4. Koragg (Mystic Force)

Koragg looks a little like one of the Power Rangers fused with both Zacian and Zamazenta from Pokemon Sword and Shield.
I guess that makes sense seen as though this guy was nicknamed ‘The Knight Wolf’. And you know what, he had all the traits of a knight too, even though he was evil as heck.
Koragg would only fight against people who were armed. He was evil, but he had the honour of a samurai, and I think viewers enjoyed this, hoping that he might break the evil spell on him and become good in every episode.
And he looked awesome; what could be cooler than a medieval Power Ranger?
3. Tenaya (RPM)

Tenaya takes the bronze medal in todays list of the best Power Rangers villains of all time. She might look human, but she’s actually a human modified into a killer robot designed to wipe out the Rangers and pretty much anyone else in existence.
And, just like Astronema, it’s revealed that she’s a family member of one of the Power Rangers!
Everything about Tenaya is well designed, and I’m not just talking about her cool visor. She’s Venjix’s best creation and favourite fighter, and her storyline is one of the best in the entire franchise.
Add in the fact that she has lots of creepy traits like her weird whistling and she portrays a disturbing picture throughout, making her one of the eeriest villains of all time.
2. Ivan Ooze ( Power Rangers The Movie)

Ivan Ooze scared me as a kid. He was such a great villain and undoubtedly one of the weirdest characters from the entire franchise.
Ivan boasts Emperor Palpatine style lightening powers, and his sludge turns people into zombies.
Do I need to say anymore; the guy is a monster!
He might look a little weird, but Ivan was in the very first Power Rangers Movie and was the first big boss we ever came across in a feature length movie. Plus he manages to put Rita and Lord Zedd in a snow globe!
The Rangers have to seek out new power and come back with Ninja Zords, and they even have to resurrect Zordon because of Ivan’s shenanigans!
1. Lord Zedd (Mighty Morphin’)

Zordon has spoken, the Power Rangers have hung up their helmets, and Lord Zedd is officially the best Power Rangers villain of all time!
Let’s face it, he’s actually one of the best villains of any TV series ever made! He’s terrifying to look at, you can see his brains, and he’s got a huge metal jaw and massive claws.
And, even when the rangers defeated him time and time again, he never lost his composure or gave up. If anything, he got more determined, more powerful, and a whole lot angrier.
Heck, even his own wife, Rita Repulsa, and all of her minions were scared when he returned. That says a lot about how maniacal he was, because Rita was crazy!
Lord Z managed to defeat the original Dinozords, and he even returned in Power Rangers Dino Fury to mess with time! He’s an epic character and one of the most brutal villains we’ve ever come across.
All hail Lord Zedd!

Who Is The Best Power Rangers Comic Book Villain

Lord Drakkon is the best Power Rangers Comic Book villain of all time, purely because of the fact that he defeats Zordon, kills Jason and most of the Power Rangers, turns Kimberley evil, defeats all the Zords, and kills Rita Repulsa.
Yeah, this guy is super evil!
Lord Drakkon is Tommy from a parallel universe. Combining the suits of the Green and White Rangers, he becomes the most powerful character of all time and basically takes over the entire world.
Instead of breaking free from Rita’s curse and joining the Power Rangers, he goes rogue, steals the enhanced Power Zordon is planning on giving Jason, and becomes an unstoppable force. He also creates and leads the Drakkon Rangers, and those guys aren’t the kind of people you’d want to invite to your dinner party!
So, let’s all be glad that Tommy did break free of Rita’s spell and went on to become a good guy, otherwise Angel Grove would have been a heck of a lot more depressing!

Seb Santabarbara has bought every Nintendo console that has ever been released in his 33 years on Planet Earth. His favourite game franchise is Zelda, and he’s patiently waiting for Banjo-Kazooie to come back to the fold. When he’s not playing games, he’s travelling the world in his self-converted camper van.
