Yet another variant of the Pocket Advance by KONKR has been revealed today, taking the choice of colours up to 6, just a week after the product itself was released into the world. Many of AYANEO's community are getting a little annoyed at the way they're releasing new variants, punishing those who ordered early, and rewarding those who wait with an array of colour options to pick.
Though this edition is a little different and it's not available to the public, it's a "non-commercial edition", so to speak. It's created for those who become a part of AYANEO's new developer incentive programme, designed to assist retro gamers with the creation of applications and frontends specifially for AYANEO products.
It was revealed today in AYANEO's livestream, one of many that Arthur has led, extending for many hours, sprinkled with small announcements and then typically finished by revealing a new colourway- that's what's been happening over the last few weeks anyway!
This livestream focused on the software side, offering users a look behind the curtains at an upcoming developer programme by AYANEO offering users tools to create frontends, projects, games and apps for them in an effort to build a community-focused handheld manufacturer open to developments from community members. It's a great idea, and one I hope they're apparently having success with, only accessible by contacting AYANEO directly. This is good news for us all, because as mentioned in our KONKR Pocket Advance review, their frontend is just okay, but there are plenty of better ones on the Android app store that elevate their handhelds to the next level, such as Socket.
So, those who are a part of the programme will likely hear from AYANEO over the coming days/weeks, likely inviting you to snag one of these limited edition versions yourself for a price, or you'll be a part of a lottery system that picks winners, as a thank you for assisting with AYANEO's software developments. It's a cool gesture, and one their close community will certainly appreciate.
If you really do want one, I won't be surprised if these turn up on third-party marketplaces in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled; they're highly limited. The new edition looks like it features the same dark transparent shell as the publicly available Onyx Ice version that they announced, but instead offers red shoulder buttons, DPAD and action buttons to give it a very scary, somewhat Dracula-looking vibe.
