A new budget handheld is about to enter the ring from the team over at MagicX. It’s called the Mini Zero 28 and has a very intriguing price point of $59, making it perfectly priced to compete with the ANBERNIC RG35XXSP and the TRIMUI Brick.
Speaking of the TRIMUI Brick, the MagicX Mini Zero 28 is set to use the same Allwinner Cortex chipset that the TRIMUI Brick and Smart Pro handhelds use according to details shared by Notebook Check. The handheld boasts 2GB of RAM, a 2.8″ 640×480 screen, Wi-Fi capabilities, and a 2,800 mAh battery that should roughly last around 8-9 hours if your display isn’t brighter than the sun. It runs Android 10 and comes in three colourways – Black, Purple, and the ever-cool Glacier Blue. The shape also looks suspiciously like the MagicX XU Mini M that I covered back in 2024 when we were all wondering whether the company had any affiliation with Powkiddy.
So what games can this thing play? Well, theoretically now that they’ve moved from the Rockchip RK3326 to an A133P, the Mini Zero 28 should be able to cope with all the usual N64 and PSP titles very easily as well as the easily-emulated consoles like NES, SNES, GBA, etc. And with 64 & 128GB storage options and TF card expansion up to 512GB, there’s plenty of space for all of your favourite retro games on here.
The official specs below claim that the console can play DS and Dreamcast games too, and as the TRIMUI Brick also does both of these on the same chipset, I suspect this is also true. How well these games are emulated is something I’ll hold out commenting on until I’ve got one in my hands – we’ve all got excited at pre-order before and then been ultimately disappointed, but so far things are looking good. Head over to the MagicX website to see more images and to put in an order!
