A Pokémon TCG Pocket Player Has Recreated The Pack Selection Screen In Game Boy Color Style

How many of you have played the Pokémon Trading Card game on Game Boy Color? It was one of the games that I was obsessed with as a kid and a title I’ve sunk some serious hours into on the Nintendo Switch after it arrived on NSO. As some of you might have seen from our Instagram, I’ve taken that obsession and transferred it to Pokémon TCG Pocket, completing all the events and spending hourglasses like there’s no tomorrow.

One fan on Reddit who clearly shares my Pokémon obsession has recreated the home screen of the Pokémon TCG Pocket app as though it was a Game Boy Colour game, demaking the graphics into an 8-bit wonder based on the booster packs available to catch in the games.

Redditor Deikar has created the ultimate nostalgia boost using a screen that they rightfully say we all see every day now. It’s the perfect combination of old and new, combining the thrills (and tears) of playing both digital variants of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Deikar has taken the Booster Pack design we see In Pokémon Trading Card Game 2 on the GBC, the Japanese-only sequel to the first game that lived in my Game Boy back in the day, and used it to recreate the packs I’ve spent the past few weeks opening at home, at family meals, at a wedding… the list goes on. The sprite versions of Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pikachu are perfect and look just like they did back in 90s.

While this news has been exciting to write, all it’s really done is give me a massive yearning to both open packs and grab my Game Boy to play the old game. Check out where the original game ranked on the list of our favourite Game Boy Colour titles, and take a look at the guide I’ve written about how to beat the Lapras Event on Pokémon TCG Pocket if you’re struggling to get to the end!
