Rayman Return Possible After Ubisoft Confirms It’s Exploring New Games

Rayman game with characters either side

We’ve been keeping our fingers crossed for Rayman’s return for a while now, ever since he appeared as an unlockable character in the Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope DLC ‘ Rayman in the Phantom Show’. It made sense seeing as though the Rabbids and Rayman are intrinsically linked, but that didn’t stop me from hoping that we’d be getting another game from the Armless Wonder sometime soon. Well, it seems that our dreams could be coming true as Ubisoft is actively looking into a new Rayman game 11 years after the last title in the series dropped.

Yes, it’s been 11 years since Rayman: Legends arrived on consoles, and according to Digital Trends, the team at Ubisoft Montpellier who worked on the next iteration of Jordan Mechner’s Prince of Persia ‘The Lost Crown’ alongside Ubisoft Milan to bring Rayman back. It’s nice to know we Italians are having a hand in bringing back one of our favourite series!

So is there anyone from the original games working on reviving the series? According to sources, Rayman’s creator Michel Ancel is back on the board to make sure that the new project fits in with the previous Rayman outings. Continuity is important when there’s such a big gap between games, and it gives me confidence that Ubisoft is taking this seriously and listening to their fans. Who knows, we might even get a 3D outing instead of a side-scrolling title!

Rumours are that we could be seeing a remake of a Rayman game, which could be a way of testing the water to see what interest there still is out there for fans. I can tell you now that if they did a remake series like the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy or the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, it would sell copies by the bucket load.

In terms of anything concrete to give you, however, I’m afraid that the project is still in its early stages. A spokesperson for Ubisoft Montpellier has confirmed that Milan and Montpellier are working closely together and that ‘more details will be shared later’, so for now, it’s simply a waiting game. As always, I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything more, but let us know what you would like to see from Rayman’s return in the comments below!
