We’ve worked very closely with Numskull Designs over the years and have had the privilege of checking out their quarter arcades on a number of occasions. Smaller in size but just as powerful in terms of gameplay and nostalgia factor, they’re a fantastic option for those who want those old-school arcade feels but don’t have the space for a fully-fledged cabinet. Their latest arrival drops over four decades after the original title arrived in bustling arcade halls, and it’s flippin’ epic!
It’s time to cook up a culinary masterpiece with Peter Pepper once more as you delve back into BurgerTime. Avoid fiesty food-based enemies and whip up burgers in Data East’s classic arcade title. Mr. Egg, Mr. Hotdog, and Mr. Pickle are all back to cause havoc on a screen that faithfully recreates all of those moments you’ll remember from playing the original as a child.

One thing I love the most about the quarter arcades that come out of Numskull HQ is the attention to detail; just look at the image below, the coin slots, the artwork lovingly recreated, the colour scheme exactly the same as the original. These are more than just arcade units, they’re slices of gaming history that you can stick under your arm and play anywhere. And if anyone manages to get one of these set up in their office at work without their boss knowing, then we want to see the pictures!
Numksull manages to make these quarter replicas by using some James Bond-esque methods such as 3D scanning the original cabinets and using digital restoration methods for the artwork. Each arcade is made using real wood and the designers liaise with the original licensors to get the artwork and features identical in every aspect.
Let’s talk about some of the features too; each quarter arcade has a 4-way joystick, coin doors, and a 5″ TFT screen. There’s a 3W speaker and a rechargeable lithium battery for portable play too, though you can power it via the included USB-C cable if you want to keep it in situ permanently. At just 44cm high, 15.8cm wide, and 21.6cm deep, it’s the perfect size to have on your desk next to your laptop or monitor screen to get a little game time in between emails and spreadsheets.

This is the first time that Numskull Designs has worked with Data East, but there are so many other awesome Quarter Arcades already out for gamers to nab.
