Konami has revealed a brand new Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: The Short Message, and it’s available to download right now, for free!
Silent Hill: The Short Message was officially revealed during Sony’s latest State Of Play event that premiered last night.
The first-person psychological horror title has launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 and is available right now for fans to download and enjoy. ‘Enjoy’ might be a bit misleading actually. I played through the opening section this morning and I’m probably going to feel on-edge all day!
The Short Message is a departure for the long-running spooky franchise about America’s foggiest town, taking place in first-person with your character relying on her mobile phone to survive.
Motoi Okamoto, a Producer at Konami shared their thoughts on a PlayStation Blog post, revealing that Silent Hill: The Short Message is an ‘experimental project’ and ‘an opportunity to try out different things.
The prominent phone use is one such ‘different thing’. Okamoto wished to ‘incorporate contemporary problems’ for The Short Message. We think they’re on to something here, as anybody that frequents social media in 2024 will agree it’s a frightening place.
Silent Hills
Silent Hill: The Short Message wasn’t the only Silent Hill title on display during last night’s State of Play event.
Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake also showcased a new trailer focused on the grisly combat of James Sunderland’s long-awaited revival.
Silent Hill 2 continues to impress with its stunning visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The sinister town looks extra eerie thanks to the inclusion of Unreal’s Lumen and Nanite technology.
The Silent Hill 2 remake was one of several PlayStation exclusives featured in the State Of Play including Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Stellar Blade.
Silent Hill: The Short Message wasn’t the only new spin on an existing franchise either with our favourite speedy hedgehog receiving a brand new trailer for Sonic x Shadow Generations.
