I can remember the very first time I turned on Pokémon Red on my Game Boy and stepped into the world of Pokémon. It was a moment that would change my and my friends' lives forever, walking around wishing that we had Pikachu and his pals following us around wherever we went. I would spend hours on Pokémon Red, dreaming about it when I turned it off, and chatting with my friends on the playground about it when we were at school. Tamagotchis were out because Pokémon training was everything.
Pokémon has come on leaps and bounds since the first games back in the 90s, however. The original Kanto 151 are still the best critters around, but the likes of Pokopia and the Pokémon Legends games have taken the series to new heights. And let's not forget the upcoming Winds and Waves and our personal 'Pombon for President' campaign.

We listed 16 of the best and most loved Pokémon games of all time, influential titles that have pushed the series to new limits and captured the hearts and minds of gamers everywhere. One thing was made clear very early on, however - you guys love the old school games the most, and we would heartily agree with you!
Pokémon Stadium beat Sword and Shield, and Colosseum triumphed over Pokopia. It was a close call as we came into the final, with Pokémon Crystal facing off against its Gen 2 counterparts, Gold and Silver.

In the end, Pokémon Crystal took the crown, a worthy winner as the advanced versions of two absolute classics. We have so much love for this game here at Retro Dodo, the definitive Gen 2 game that took everything we loved about Gold and Silver and tweaked it to make it perfect.
Crystal sold just over 6 million copies, around a 5th of the Gen 1 sales for Red, Blue, & Japan's Pokémon Green, racking up over 31 million sales. Still, it has remained a fan favourite and a kind of holy grail for collectors looking to pick up the cartridge. I love my copy of Pokémon Crystal and will be holding onto it tightly, not just because it's a great game, but because it's now a Retro Dodo champion!
