Zelda Skyward Sword Switch edition is finally coming to your beloved Nintendo Switch. That’s right in today’s 50 minute long Nintendo Direct, one of the last things to be announced was one that we honestly didn’t see coming.
The original Zelda: Skyward Sword was released in 2011 for the Nintendo Wii and its biggest selling point was the fact that you could use the sword and shield as the Nintendo Wiimote, letting you hack and slash your way through the game.
Now, as of July 16th 2021, you’ll be able to do that in Full HD using your joy-cons. For those that are new to Zelda: Skyward Sword, it’s basically another traditional Zelda game where you take the role of Link who ventures through monster infested worlds.
Of course you’ll find your dungeons, puzzles and big challenging bosses. For those that have played Zelda: Breath of The Wild you will see a bunch of familiar features such as the glider and the stamina bar, as this is where they originally originated from.
It’s a standard sized game, with new things to unlock and new places to explore. This “HD” version wants you to primarily use the game in docked mode so you can get the most satisfaction from slicing your enemies in half with a Joy-Con.
It can be played in portable mode, or on the Nintendo Switch Lite, and instead of the joy-con its the right analogue stick that you use to attack, the camera auto focuses for you.
Admittedly Skyward Sword was one of the best Nintendo Wii games out there, but the motion controllers were never on point. Now many years later Nintendo are stating that the processing power of the Switch will make the gestures far more fluid.
New Zelda: Skyward Sword Joy-Cons
Not only did they announce Zelda: Skyward Sword HD but Nintendo also lifted the hood on some brand new custom joy-cons that go with the game.
As you can see these go into a lot more detail compared to traditional Joy-Cons. They feature decals around each of the joysticks, even details around the DPAD and actions buttons. The shoulder attachments also come in a silver to match the new logo.
And there’s some more detailing towards the bottom of the joy-cons too, just to let everyone know how much of a Zelda addict you actually are. This is a nice addition to the game, and one many of you Joy-Con collectors will love.
Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Release Date
Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will be released on July 16th 2021 on the Switch Store and in retailers. You can pre-order right now on the Switch store too!
If you want the new Joy-Cons you can buy them in retail stores or order them online on July 16th 2021.
What’s your thoughts on this? We know this probably wasn’t the Zelda game you’ve been waiting for but you have to admit its a nice way to experience the awesome game in a modern Joy-Con form factor. Will you be picking up the Joy-Cons? Let us know on twitter @retro_dodo!
