Picture the scene - you've been working hard all day and want to relax in a milk bath after your shift has ended (it's not actually milk, but a mixture of Vaseline, beeswax, and mineral oil, which to be honest sounds weirder). You're relaxing back with friends, and to your right is a pile of Hanafuda cards with scenes from Super Mario gaming past on them. Ok, for me living in Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, that's a heck of a long way to go to relax, but if you live in Tokyo and happen to be passing the Tokyo Plaza Harajuku Harakado, then this might all be starting to sound a lot more appealing.
For those wondering what I'm talking about, Hanafuda is a popular Japanese card game, and Nintendo has been producing their President Set of the game for over a Century since the beginning of the company. According to Mario Wiki, each month has a different theme based on different elements of the Super Mario Universe, and the artwork is beautiful with everything from Baby Mario in January to Tanooki Luigi in July, as well as mean-old Bowser bringing in some terrifying cheer in December.
Does sitting in 44-degree heat with strangers playing cards with the Polterpup on them sound like your idea of a relaxing evening or the equivalent of the Donkey Kong Country mine cart levels on Turbo? Let us know in the comments!
