You know how I keep telling you that the future is retro? Well, it's 2025, and we've just been told about a release of four Bandai-Namco arcade classics coming to Atari Consoles. No, you've not gone back in time, you're still in the same decade, it's just PLAION REPLAI doing the work of the gaming gods!
The 'Unlocking 1982' collection of cartridges was announced today, featuring Galaga, a PAC-MAN double feature, Dig Dug, and Xevious, all of which will be compatible with the original Atari 7800 and the newer HDMI-friendly consoles, the 2600+ and 7800+.
Unlocking 1982 allows gamers to step into the year that, as PLAION rightly explain, 'defined the golden age of gaming'. PAC-MAN needs no introduction or explanation as to its impact on the gaming world, and neither does Galaga and the craze it formed in the USA. Dig Dug and Xevious were arcade hall legends throughout Japan too, and now all four titles are heading onto cartridges with colour boxes and manuals on November 21st. Check out the announcement trailer below!
Speaking about the new release, PLAION REPLAI's Commercial Director Ben Jones said “These games aren’t just nostalgic releases, they’re cultural touchstones. With GALAGA as our flagship, and PAC-MAN, Dig Dug, and Xevious completing the set, we’re celebrating 1982 as the year that defined the golden age of arcades. We want fans old and new to unlock that moment in time and experience it all over again on Atari consoles.”
Each of the games in the Unlocking 1982 collection will cost £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 and will be available from major retailers!
