I got the LEGO Game Boy for Christmas and had so much fun building it. It's a great feature piece and talking point, a permanent fixture on my desk that I regularly pick up and procrastinate with. It's made me realise that we need more LEGO handhelds in our lives, which is why this PSP concept from yakyah needs to become a reality.
The PSP is a beautiful-looking machine - there's no denying that. It's got so many defining features from its horizontal 16:9 screen to its bright yellow charging port. And when I look at this LEGO set, I'm transported straight back to playing it for the first time.

Getting the curves right on a build like this is key to creating that exact shape and feel of the original console. Yakyah has used 'slope and SNOT' bricks (which stands for 'studs not on top') to create that same feel, and it looks fantastic. There's even a functional UMD drive complete with a PSP demo disc to create the finished article.
The set is only around 333 pieces and comes with stickers for some of the smaller parts that cant be made out of bricks. Looking at the bottom of the console, you would think that those are actually real butons and not stick-on features - that's how good it is! The D-pad, shoulder, and action buttons look amazing, as does the little UMD Disc. It's 100% going to get lost if you have small children around, so watch out for that!

If you've never checked out a LEGO Ideas project, then here's how it works. There are certain milestones creators need to reach to extend the amount of time they get to reach their final goal. Initially, creators have 60 days to reach 100 supporters. At 100 supporters, a further 365 days are added to the clock, then an extra 182 days are added at the 1K and 5K supporters stage.
Once a project has reached 10K supporters, it's put in front of the LEGO Ideas judging panel to determine whether it becomes a fully-fledged set. I know we've got the official Sony PS1 set coming soon, but I can't see Sony doing all of their consoles in official sets. And as yakyah's PSP looks so good, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't get the green light, or maybe it might get taken on by Sony themselves!
