At just 28mm, you can now have a ring with a virtual pet on it. Just when you thought that everything in the world had been invented, Bandai announced the Tamagotchi ring and proved that there's always something slightly useless that we 100% need.

There have been 38 iterations of the Tamagotchi before this one, making this the 39th Tamagotchi to grace planet Earth. It's half the size of the original Tamagotchi which released in 1996, and features the smallest LCD screen to date too! But here's the best bit - to celebrate 30 years of Tamagotchi, there are 30 of the best characters from over the past three decades that feature on these rings, giving you plenty of choice as to which creature you raise. I had a chicken back in the day... I don't want to think about what happened to that little dude...

There are three versions of the ring available - black and silver, blue and gold, and pink and pearl. Bandai are releasing these in Japan, but Meccha Japan have them in stock right now for you to purchase from anywhere in the world (thanks, The Gamer).

So how much do these cost? Well, the Japanese price is ¥7,700, which works out as £35/$48, although other sites will have to add extra fees on top, which is why Mecha Japan are charging £60.03 when I look on their website. Either way, there are ways to purchase these rings if you don't live in Japan, which is good news if your fingers are lacking a virtual pet to weigh them down!
