Tamagotchi Are Releasing A Celebration Egg To Mark Their 28th Birthday

One of the best things about getting older is that all of our favourite 90s toys are also having birthday celebrations too. In fact, the Dreamcast just turned 25 this week on September 9th, and Nintendo always surprise us when a famous console or character has a milestone birthday. Well, while 28 years isn’t exactly a traditional excuse to throw a huge party, Bandai Namco are throwing out all the stops to celebrate their iconic 90s collectible.

A special Tamagotchi Celebratory Egg will be dropping from Bandai Namco in 2025 and is going back to the very beginnings of the toy’s life. When it comes to the question of ‘which came first; the Tamagotchi or the Egg’, the actual answer is the egg, as that is what the name comes from – Tamago, which translates into egg (thanks for the inside scoop Yanko Design). Bandai Namco has taken this idea pretty literally too and is making the outer casing of their new Tamagotchi from recycled eggshells – a recycled toy that’s eco-friendly at the same time!

Holding a toy egg that feels like an egg is probably going to be too much for my 90s kid brain to think about. From looking at the packaging it seems that there are 6 of the original Gen 1 animals to collect in the new design which I’ve listed above from the official Tamagotchi website including Mametchi, Ginjirotchi, Maskutchi, Kuchipatchi, Nyorotchi, and Tarakotchi. Tamagotchis cost around $18 in the late 90s, and now the new Tamagotchi 28th Birthday Egg will cost £29.99 through Amazon and Amazon only, which I guess is pretty much on par. I don’t have an exact date for when it will launch, only that it’s coming in 2025, so check here back for more posts as when I have more information!
