If, like me, you're a complete Retro Gaming nerd, then you've probably either wondered about having an arcade cabinet in your house or have actually just taken the plunge and turned up home with one and given it pride of place in your living room.
The problem is that, not every house has the space to keep an arcade cabinet out at all times. Not only that, but it's a lot to ask your partner to put up with if you don't have a specific games room. I know my girlfriend would probably give me a funny look if I came home with a full arcade cabinet to put next to the bookcase, but an arcade that turns into a cabinet - well, that's a different thing entirely.
Meet the Swap Arcade, an arcade cabinet that is compatible with retro and modern consoles. You'll be able to play your favourite arcade titles using the arcade-esque fightpads with joysticks and buttons, as well as titles from your favourite retro consoles, PlayStation, Switch, PC, and much more.
And when you're done playing, you can keep your consoles stored away in the cabinet part, pull the lid down, and voila - it looks like you've got a standard cabinet that you can put things like vases or books on top of. It goes from looking super retro to super rustic in the space of seconds!
This genius idea comes to us from Les Cookson & Ken Higginson, two inventors from Lincoln, California. It's a fantastic bit of engineering and a unique idea that would make full-scale cabinets much more accessible, no matter what size of house you live in (or type of partner - I hope mine's not reading this!)
The Swap Arcade is launching on Kickstarter 'soon'. That's all the information I have right now, but I'll be reaching out to Les and Ken for more information and letting you know as soon as I receive the inside scoop!
