Sony Reveals New PS2 Games Heading To PS Plus Premium Next Month

Sony has lifted the lid on the first three classic PS2 titles coming to PS Plus Premium in June, with Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, and Star Wars leading the charge. Tomb Raider Legend, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus are all heading to PS Plus Premium for members to download and enjoy as part of the Classics Catalogue on the 11th of June 2024.

The announcement came today as part of a post over on the PS Blog celebrating the start of this year’s Days of Play event. This news arrives almost two weeks after we first reported on a new store listing for Star Wars: The Clone Wars that indicates a change in how PS2 games will play on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.

The store listing for the PS2 version of Star Wars: The Clone Wars suggests a new emulator will indeed come into play, with modern quality-of-life features such as rewind and save states as standard, allowing players to cycle backward through their gameplay at the press of a button.

Additionally, the new emulation will enable new video filters and up-rendering. With today’s reveal of new PS2 titles finally hitting PS Plus Premium, we won’t have long to wait to see these new features in action.

Fan reaction to the news already seems positive, with user jngham commenting on the PS Blog directly with “PS2 GAMES AND SLY COOPER!!!!!!!!”. I have to agree, as a huge PS2 fan (and an especially big fan of Sucker Punch’s Sly Cooper) I can’t wait to see these titles pop onto PlayStation Plus next month.

While Sony has consistently released PS1 titles via PS Plus Premium in recent years, the slim selection of PS2 games hasn’t grown on the service since 2019. Here’s hoping that this first wave of titles ushers in more classic PS2 games on PS Plus in the near future.
